Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

"I can say, unequivocally, that if you did the same thing the ICE officer in Minneapolis did, you would be found guilty of a crime, and your claim of self-defense would be rejected outright."

I think Justin is correct in this assessment. If two neighbors had a similar interaction with the same video evidence, the shooter would undoubtedly be under arrest right now.

The legal threshold as Justin Amash notes is the same for everyone. I would argue that as a matter of public policy we should hold trained law enforcement to a higher standard that some rando private citizen. Not that this will happen in this situation. But when I interact with a police officer I expect more professionalism and self-control out of them than some rando stranger.

As I said, I don't expect this administration to even approach that. I doubt the officer will be put on administrative leave pending an investigation. And I don't think there will be an investigation. There will be a circling of the wagons.

And what if you’ve been following and badgering him all day?

But that isn’t the situation at all. It’s not a shock that amash misses the mark

How do you know she wasn't?

I’ll see if you can read this right.

Was she with the kid during the super scary ice raids ? So scary she needed to burnout a car toward them to escape ?

No she was yelling at ice agents instead. It’s a choice, not one good parents make

The public pays his salary. And is entitled to an expectation he will show restraint and professionalism even in those circumstances.
Restraint when being ran over by a car in a climate where people are encouraging the murderring of ice agents.

When a car burns out toward him then collides with him?

That a high bar of restraint
I've had cars turn in a way that made me think they might hit me. Enough so that I've made a quick move to avoid getting hit. If I had shot the driver under those circumstances I'd be in jail.

Omg - you actually believe this is the same thing.

Supposedly the two kids she had from a prior relationship are custodied with the father. Do you know how terrible of a mother you have to be to lose a custody battle? Or maybe she didn’t even want the kids.

This woman seems like a real treat.

To be fair, I've never held my camera out to record at close range a car that might be moving toward me. So I will concede that the cases where I thought a car might hit me were different in some details.
