Meh, I don’t want Iran to be effective at harming our soldiers, but it’s reasonable to suggest Iran has been determined to not crack. There have been a handful of viable off-ramps for the regime and thus far they haven’t taken them. Determination and resolve aren’t necessarily morally positive traits in this regard (see Japan in WW2), but they do seem determined.

Lots of Iranians are going to die in their battle to retake the country. My impression is the people would enthusiastically take that chance to have freedom.

Yeah, but Iran the political entity doesn’t give a flying fuck about any of that. Objectives A through Z are staying in some semblance of power when the dust clears and the constant bombing of Tehran isn’t going to be super compelling as a deterrent when killing their citizens is already their 9-5. This is why, for the millionth time. It’s be helpful for the United States to articulate to the public what exactly the end goal is here. Otherwise I guess we just spend whatever we must until Iran capitulates or there’s nobody left to fight?
