    Minor League Thread Part Deux

just want to add he was sitting ~92 last season but the average velocity is up to 93.7 this year, and looks like it has gradually increased as the year has gone on it's nice that he seems to be trending up without affecting his command, especially since most of the reports i see on the scouting...

    Minor League Thread Part Deux

i was referring to this tweet from his last start, my point was that even the guys you were citing as examples of success with slow fastballs were throwing significantly harder than murphy. if he's sitting 91-94 that's different.

    2025-2026 offseason thread

yeah i agree that lopez and (especially) holmes should start the year in the bullpen. a pen with lopez/holmes/johnson/lee/lopez/bummer is already pretty strong without signing anyone.

    Minor League Thread Part Deux

Lugo and Littell both sit 2+ mph above where Murphy is currently sitting; Lugo throws like 8 pitches, Littell didn't "figure it out" until his age 28 season and isn't actually very good. Quintana is also throwing harder than Murphy, and he hasn't been a particularly good pitcher in years. All...

GDT 8-5: Brewers at Braves; Game 2

yeah it's the same issue with [most] of snit's boneheaded moves. all the little stuff adds up over time, it's one of the reasons the dodgers and rays are consistently so much better than other teams with similar payrolls.

    Michael Harris II

How reliable is stuff+ though? My understanding is that it's still pretty experimental. This paper seems to think it's still pretty lacking compared to other stats (namely xwOBA) that take batted ball outcomes into account...

in an ideal world he's probably best out of the bullpen anyway. he's ok as a fifth starter, but his results fall off a cliff the second time through the order. first time through the order though he pitches like someone a competitive team could trust to be a high leverage reliever.

GDT 8-2: Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!

I wasn't able to watch the game, but I see that statcast has him throwing a sinker instead of a four-seamer like last year. i don't recall seeing anything about him changing up his repertoire - does the sinker look more viable than the four-seamer?

    Minor League Thread Part Deux

if you're talking about fuentes, he is the lone braves prospect on the FG list, at 69 right now and i imagine he'll be moved up a lot when the list is updated after the season i'd question stuff+ before i question the prospect lists. the stuff grading systems seem like they still need a lot of...

    2025 Trade Deadline Thread

It definitely feels like something changed last year at the deadline. Prior to that AA was generally pretty proactive and creative (people whine about the Kelenic trade(s) in the 2024 offseason, but the Sale, Lopez and Holmes acquisitions were all great), but then he just... stopped. Despite...

Braves Acquire Rockies Pitcher Tyler Kinley

Maybe he'll see better results if he's out of coors, his home/away splits are interesting (.352 woba at home/.269 away)

    Braves Acquire Erick Fedde

my dude this move is connected to the reality that the braves have exactly one major league starter on the roster and still unfortunately have to play 58 more games

    2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Oh yeah de la Cruz was pretty close, Williams is slightly worse at 31.4%. Big difference is Williams is a .249 career hitter in the minors and de la Cruz batted around .300 most years. Feel like that's the profile of a guy who's likely not going to hit at all in the majors, but he does have...

    2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Can anyone point me to a successful major league hitter who had strikeout rates similar to Carson's in the minors? Not trying to be snarky, I just genuinely can't think of anyone.
