Game day thread: braves @ astros

I know Kyle Muller was tall, but he has an awfully strong and broad build too. Astros broadcast noted he hit 93.

Enjoyed getting a chance to see Wilson. Hard to tell for sure, but looked like 4 different pitches to me: 4-seamer, 2-seamer, slider, change. Command a little off, but works fast. His body type make me think RP, but his array of pitches gives him a great chance to start.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Yes. Touched 95 a couple times, but mostly 92-94.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Allard 90-91 on FB so far. I may be misremembering, but I thought he was posting a lot of 88-89 last year.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

The called 3rd strike looked a little more outside corner to my eye, but it definitely wasn't a good looking AB for Riley. Did not look comfortable.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Alonso HR on 94 MPH FB down the middle. He doesn't have the velocity that Folty has to get away with those pitches as often. Shows a couple nice 2-seam FBs on the outside corner after that though. Riley with a pretty sound defensive play coming in on a soft ground ball to end the inning.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Pache not a huge guy, but looks a little stronger than last year at this time to me. His first swing was terrible, but ends up getting an IF single. First look at Jenista . . . big dude with a big swing.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Touki FB 92-95. Got away with a bit of a hanging CB on first hitter, then a much better curve to induce ground out on Lagares.

    Braves Mets tomorrow

Uneventful top half. Duvall the only one to make sharp contact. There is a radar gun (sometimes there isn't one for ST) on the Mets broadcast, so will be interesting to see the numbers on Touki and Allard.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

AA confirmed when the deal was announced that he was signed to be an everyday player. The plan for all the everyday players this year (including Freeman) will be to get more days off, so I'd guess that Markakis will start 140-150 games if healthy and productive into the Summer.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

Regarding Myers, I don't see AA giving any serious consideration to adding a corner OF between now and June that would relegate Markakis to a 4th OF role. Markakis was promised a near full-time role. Only 2-3 months of sub-par production (or injury) is going to change that.

    2018 Offseason And Targets

I concede that Harper is an All-star caliber player right now. But he has just not produced in recent years like a guy who has much chance of making a 10 / $300m contract look like a good idea. There are concerns about his defense in an OF corner already after his age 26 season. His...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

This would be a pretty awesome outcome for the Braves, IMO. Phillies have a ton of money, so best to see them spend it poorly . . . and best to have them wear the 2019 pressure that will come in spades with this signing. Just hoping the contract is uber-bad with an opt-out to minimize any...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

Reading between the lines from the AA / McGuirk comments . . . - Last year the budgeted payroll was $120m and they were authorized to dial it up to $126m in the Summer. - The budget for 2020 will be "$140m or above". - So I'd speculate that the 2019 budgeted payroll is $130m with the ability...

    2018 Offseason And Targets

To my knowledge, the Baseball Prospectus WAR system is the only one that includes pitch framing. I just pulled the average WAR / 600 PA over the past three years for these guys . . . J. T. Realmuto: 4.5 Tyler Flowers: 6.1 This approach of averaging PAs is of course a little unfair to...

I think we're all anxious for this to be over, so wanted to pass along the good news . . . Fish have very good reason to wrap this up before Saturday. https://www.mlb.com/news/marlins-want-sixto-sanchez-for-jt-realmuto/c-303603116

    2018 Offseason And Targets

I'd personally rather trade Riley than Anderson or Pache. I have somewhat of a bias towards plus defenders, so that influences my view of Pache > Riley. The Anderson spin rate concerns are a legit worry, but he is still a really nice prospect even with that priced in. The Braves have big...
