2018 Offseason And Targets

From this point....what would you guys consider a successful offseason?

IF we sign Kimbrel while adding Donaldson and signing Neck and Bmac for little to nothing...all while keeping the farm completely in tact....that’s not too shabby.

With no other moves it’s pretty lackluster. Safe, not horrible, just “ok”.

When this started (and although I really like Kimbrel), he would have been the last person I would want us to go after. At this point, he may be the only real impact player left that we could actually afford.

I think our offense will be a good bit better, provided we don't see a huge regression from Acuna and Donaldson stays healthy. Our bench will be improved, and that will allow us to rest the regulars more and keep them fresh throughout the season.

I think our pitching could end up being worse with the loss of Sanchez, who was quite good for us last year. My hope is that we'll see Gausman pitch like he did after the trade, and that one of the young kids steps up for the 5th spot. I feel confident in Folty, and Julio will be a solid #4. Newk? Who knows. I like O'Day a lot if he's his usual self, but we lost Brach. I think our BP will be better than last year.

Right now I think we got a bit better, but improved less than 3 other teams in the division. Like everyone else here I'd love another move, but doesn't look like one is forthcoming before the season starts

I think we are good enough to be right there at the deadline and then can add the big bag we will need to win it. Like two months of Trout...

Things are heating up with Harper. Intensified is the word I heard. Phillies are the favorite, but word remains that nothing’s done yet. Will be a long-term deal.

It’ll suck if Philly signs Harper but let’s please stop overreacting and creating a false narrative. Money isn’t the only resource to make a team better, and the Braves have a great system to improve their major league product.

Still, let’s make one more move.

It would suck if they got Harper but they got money to burn unfortunately. I'd say all of the Nats/Braves/Mets/Phillies are about the same, gonna be a dogfight.

Regarding the Braves, not the offseason some hoped. But we still have our prospects to help the ML team and if AA ever wants to use them to trade for someone. Plus two 1st round prospects and a top 10 pick to use, financial flexibility going forward unless there's a surprise move (Kimbrel) coming in the next couple weeks.

I still think we need another bat, but Camargo to the bench in a Marwin/Chris Taylor/Zobrist role will be an underrated part to the team if JD is healthy.

Can't beat the Onion. Makes me truly believe Harper has been holding off on agreeing to join Philly this entire time.

This would be a pretty awesome outcome for the Braves, IMO. Phillies have a ton of money, so best to see them spend it poorly . . . and best to have them wear the 2019 pressure that will come in spades with this signing. Just hoping the contract is uber-bad with an opt-out to minimize any possible upside for PHI.

Bryce Harper is a 26-year-old superstar who posted a 10 WAR season at 22 years old.

This goes beyond his direct statistics. Pitchers are terrified of him and this would drastically improve the entire Phillies lineup.

Spinning this as anything but bad for us Braves fans is the height of bean-counting delusion.

I agree. Nothing about him going to the Phillies is good for us.
