Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

That sounded disrespectful maybe, but that's what the waiver wire is for - replacement-level players that change teams all the time. They're still major league caliber ballplayers, which is a very select group. But within that group, they don't have any special skills that would increase their...

Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

Not getting worked up over those moves…I used them as illustration that the Soler move doesn’t come as a huge surprise, because AA‘s strategy seems to be to bring any affordable piece of the 21 team back.

Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

Yeah…they‘re the type of players you get for nothing, all the time.

Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

He‘s not even the best hitter at his most suitable position. He has 1.1 WAR. That‘s pretty much the same value added as Kelenic, who everyone here hates. And it took him 60 more PA to get there.

Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

He already signed back Duvall. He brought back Rosario. Players like that are available almost all of the time at minimal cost, but he got those two. Probably not solely because they were the best options for the needs and resources at the time, but also because of the memories. So yeah, Soler...

Reports: Braves Acquire Jorge Soler And Luke Jackson From Giants

AA has made some really shrewd moves in the past, but this one doesn't feel like one of them. I generally hate it when a GM - in any sport - acquires these "old faithfuls" from days past. Too often, it's based on sentimental value and pure hope, as opposed to an actual plan. It usually means the...

    Ozzie Albies. Not Good News

Overreactive? All of that stuff should be standard practice for an MLB team. Who knows? Maybe the Braves are doing all what I described and more, and just have rotten luck this season. I‘s love to learn more about what they are doing in this regard. But yeah, fair point about last season...

    Ozzie Albies. Not Good News

Goodness…Albies breaks his wrist on a swipe tag. Acuna tears his ACL wandering off 2B. Murphy misses 2 months because he swung too hard. Harris looks like he is all in on the Andruw Jones diet program. Someone needs to take s good look at these players‘ lifestyle, nutrition and exercise...

    GDT 7/13/24: Braves @ Padres - A Fox Game

I think Sale is the one guy they need to put in bubble wrap, due to his fragility. They can ride Morton as hard as they like for all I care. Or let SS, Elder etc. eat some innings, as I don't think making the playoffs will be a major hurdle. With Sale, I'd like to at least limit the amount of...

    GDT 7/13/24: Braves @ Padres - A Fox Game

Easy now...just quoted the wrong post. Sale is on pace to approach 200 IP, which he hasn't come close to since 2017. He has an injury history ranging from ribs through shoulder, elbow, wrist to his little finger. All of those are kinda important for a pitcher. He's 35 years old. He has a...

    GDT 7/13/24: Braves @ Padres - A Fox Game

Afraid so...as good as Sale's been, I'm not expecting much from him in October. Chances are he'll either be injured, or worn out.

    GDT 7/13/24: Braves @ Padres - A Fox Game

There's still al lot more things that have gone right for the rotation than have gone wrong. Can't complain about overall luck. In order to keep it that way, the Braves should really look to limit Sale's pitch count the rest of the season. No reason to let him go past 100 pitches all the time.

OT What current players are a shoo-in for the HOF?

But that's exactly what sets hall of famers apart from merely great players - the ability to perform past their prime. Being a league average performer while being way older than most other players is difficult. And being league-average is valuable - a team full of average players should win 81...

    7/2: giants game 1

I know he hasn't had a good year, but come on, everyone. Matt Olson is only 30 years old, 4.5 years younger than FF. Which was the main reason for the trade. I don't know what the typical aging curve is for players of his type, but he has a lean body and plays a position that doesn't put a lot...

    7/2: giants game 1

He was complete and utter trash that entire series. He was the main reason it even went to game 5. He literally could have afforded to have a regular bad series, and it wouldn't even have gone to game 5. But he was atrocious.

    7/2: giants game 1

Really...how many playoff series did FF win from 2010-2020?

GDT 6/30: Schwellenbach and Sunday Morning Coming Down

Damn. After the Yankees series, I really thought the offense had turned the corner. Alas, the $hit show continues.

    Grading Waldrep's Stuff

No…but that is his CEILING. It’s just as likely that he ends up a reliever or AAAA starter. Of course, all assuming the pitchfx data stays consistent, and there is no remarkable improvement to his command.

    Grading Waldrep's Stuff

Maybe…but then you basically have Ian Anderson: great change-up, but straight fastball with inconsistent command, and so-so breaking ball. So his ceiling is MOR. It’s not that those aren’t useful, but that is disappointing for a first round pick.
