Maybe not with this judge, but in general? There’s simply not an overabundance of white teens getting sentenced more harshly than minorities in this country.

My best guess is actually that the sentencing might not be wildly different but that a different group of people would be outraged.

Yeah, there’s a real risk in the way they’re doing they’re gerrymandering right now if they don’t actually fix the economy in the next 12 months.

You want individuals to be imprisoned for life for stealing tv’s because shopping has become less convenient. I don’t know how to get people to understand that both political violence and ridiculous demonization of others is the most bipartisan behavior in our country today.

I simply disagree? Again, this isn’t a defense of it because if it’s not practical it’s useless, but I can see the merits of it in a vacuum.

I agree with you on this. I don’t think they need to be removed from society forever, but this is not remotely an adequate sentence. If there were ever a time or place to invest real public funding into genuine rehabilitation in the corrections system, this would be where I’d start. Make the...

One thing I think people do a lot of is conflating the concept of Communism with the real-life examples of governments that are described as such. I don’t actually know that Socialism or Communism as an idea is the problem, it’s that once the reality of governing and human nature is factored in...

I’d veer a different direction and just have it be a bit of a nuisance. Need to not starve? Sure, but it’s not a card you can take to your local Walmart. Need shelter? Sure, but we’re not going to subsidize you living in your current home. This would apply to Social Security as well. We do too...

It’s perfectly simple to me: I think it’s immoral and unjust for a society to tie someone’s rights to their aptitude and economic productivity. We have plenty of systems in place to provide advantages to the producer group. We don’t need to add such fundamental rights to the mix.
