GDT: 8/1/'17 - Braves (Sims) v. Dodgers (Maeda), ALBIES + SIMS DEBUTS! 7:35PM

I'll also add for a kid making his first start he looked pretty unflappable. A couple of bad plays from Santana and Flowers really didn't rattle him. I was impressed.

GDT: 8/1/'17 - Braves (Sims) v. Dodgers (Maeda), ALBIES + SIMS DEBUTS! 7:35PM

I was really surprised to see so much meh regarding Sims, I thought he actually looked pretty durned good, and not as a potential TOR or anything like that - but if he can eat up innings and pitch at the back of the rotation as a starter that has a lot of value. I loved seeing an effective...

    Ozzie debut tonight

Right??? Especially with a rookie pitcher in Sims making his first start?? Why why why ? lol

    Ozzie debut tonight

So what happens if he plays well at SS? Would Dansby get moved? This timing makes no sense. This team needs someone in the FO to say "hold up, does this make sense?" Clock/service time aren't the be all end all, but they matter, when you add in we have a crowded infield, didn't move Phillips at...

    Ozzie debut tonight

sometimes man I just have no clue what our FO is doing...... I thought we partially held onto Phillips because we wanted to keep Albies down and Phillips was playing fine, if the idea was to call up Albies right after the deadline we should have traded Phillips for something / ANYTHING. Why...

    why are we doing this?

    Kyle Wright to Florida

not really, there were generally five agreed upon elite prospects, one of them was going to fall to 5 and Wright happened to be more expensive. I would have been very happy to get any of Lewis, Green, Gore or McKay at #5. Picking #6 would have been a kick to gut.

SUNDAY MINORS FINAL 7/30 ... Wentz keeps day from being total waste

All fair points, but I'd also argue that the 91 mph fastball with good command tends to work less and less the higher you move up the ladder. I like both, I do wish Wentz would regain a little bit of the velocity we had heard about when he was in HS.

    Executive Order #666, Enscheff

You can still be respectful even though it's on the internet - this whole idea that 'it's just the internet - so treat people however you want to' is misplaced imo. And I think he takes lots of personal shots, every time CLV writes something he takes a shot at him. None of this offends me - I...

    Executive Order #666, Enscheff

Meh, good posters aren't posting or are coming here less largely because of him. He's a smart guy but the personal jabs are almost non-stop with him, it gets really old. Frankly he's a bit of a bully.

SUNDAY MINORS FINAL 7/30 ... Wentz keeps day from being total waste

Wentz has been fantastic, but Anderson has better overall stuff, better velo - most young pitchers struggle with command somewhat. I have IA > Wentz right now - at least until we hear Wentz has more velocity. More advanced hitters are going to give him a stiff test if he's only throwing 89-92.

    AcuñaMania

I think sickels may have bumped him up right before the season as well, said he had a source that Acuna's power was legit. IIRC I still think overall people are playing catch up a little bit, and I think his speed has been overlooked slightly.

    AcuñaMania

Why can't we have a simple discussion about acuna without you resorting to board bets and being condescending towards posters? It's absolutely possible they misgraded his speed, frankly the scouts all had Acuna ranked in the low 60s-100s at the beginning of the year - and now he's a top-10 guy...

Not necessarily true regarding speed and CF. I'm guessing the Braves have him the corner more because the presence of Inciarte than a lack of speed.

    AcuñaMania

Except that he's so young he's not going to be losing much speed in the next four or five years, unless he really fills out. Obviously at some point everyone slows down, but at 19 I think that's quite a ways off for Acuna. I don't see him as the type that's going to pack in a bunch of bad weight.

Right, buts it's going to be better than a 55 FV it seems at least until he's past his mid 20s. The kid can fly. I do agree with a lot of SJ24 - even if I'm not quite as optimistic. The scouting services have been slow on acuna due to his age and lack of games played.

    Around the Minors

Thought we could have a thread for posting random Minor League news in - similar to the around the Majors thread..... I run into random minor league articles and news and want to post them, but not make a new thread for each one. If this is already collecting in a different place, my bad...
