This has positively nothing to do with his trade value. Your confusion is mounting.

When you said he had negative trade value, I assumed you were saying he had negative trade value. My bad. Not sure how I mixed that up.

So you just don’t know what the word “negative” means. Got it.

So they are simultaneously willing to pay him that contract but also unwilling because…reasons. Got it. Makes total sense. Of course, Correa is another poor comparison because he’s making over 2x what Murphy makes.

Lol claiming off waivers is exactly the same as paying them that contract as a FA…the refusal to admit that saying Murphy has negative value is dumb is leading some into the most illogical conclusions.

I am not in favor of trading players at their lowest value. I’m not sure who said he has great trade value but I guess it’s straw man time of the discussion. Non-negative trade value != great trade value, just to be clear. I think he’ll be more valuable to the Braves than whatever they’d get...

And even still, if a team is willing to give up a prospect for him, guess what? That means he doesn’t have negative value.

Lol deGrom is a 37 year old pitcher who’s been injured for way more than two seasons, making 2.5x what Murphy makes. Yeah, totally comparable.

So you don’t think Murphy would fetch even a 40 prospect in a trade?

    2025-2026 offseason thread

$15m isn’t market rate for Murphy. Murphy has been worth the same amount as Kim the past two years. You’re the one who made the Kim comparison, but you’re backtracking now because you know Kim will exceed Robert Suarez money. When he does, it’s a solid indication that Murphy would, too...

I think Texas would be ecstatic to get Murphy for a 40FV prospect. Tons of teams would run to do that.

Don’t think you could reasonably expect him to be any good this season coming off TJ. So you’re looking at $105m for 2, maybe 2.5 years. $42-$52m a year. No thanks.

I have no idea what that means. If AA put him on the market he’d get at minimum a 40FV prospect. That means he has value, and that his value is not negative. Negative value would mean he’d need a prospect attached to simply dump his contract.

I’m pushing back on the claim he has “negative” value. That’s pretty absurd.

    2025-2026 offseason thread

someone would trade at least something of real value for him. Im not even sure how that’s debatable.

3/$45 isn’t “shine” though. That’s Robert Suarez money. JTR is going to get more than a one year deal as a cleerly aging, declining player because the catcher market is barren.

    2025-2026 offseason thread

Lol whatever man. Kim played 48 games last year and was worth 0.3 fWAR. If he gets 3/$45 or more and you don’t believe Murphy would as a free agent, I don’t know what to tell you. Murphy was worth as much as JTR was last year while playing part time and injured. He’s 3.5 years younger. He put...

    2025-2026 offseason thread

Do you want to bet Kim clears $45m? I think he will. If his market were that cool, he’d be back by now. The two are in almost the exact same situation this offseason…except Murphy was a lot more productive last year. Murphy is a year older but is also the better player when both are healthy...

If you acquire Buxton you don’t play him in CF.
