I swear, if AAs signs Schwarber I will lose my shit and not in a good way. The last thing we need is to pay a bat only player a huge contract after a career year. He's a been a mediocre DH/LFer virtually every year until the last 2 years. His contact rates are normally non existent. Just...

That's best case scenario. There is fairly decent sixed chance he is just as terrible as last season. We literally saved a grand total of of 4.25 million going from Pierce Johnson to Joel Payamps.

Less expensive on a per year basis, but the contract is much worse.

Nimmo's contract was beyond awful. Siemens' contract isn't great either, but the Mets do need a 2b and his contract is better than NImmos. They clearly want to add a CFer in FA. Wouldn't be surprised if they land Bellinger.

He's always been pretty mediocre, even when he was "good." Guaranteeing him 2.5 million is not a smart move, imo.

A path to signing all those holes in FA? You're probably right. We could easily fill one or multiple holes through trade though. For instance, Freddie Peralta would be a perfect solution and only cost 8 million. Joe Ryan would also be a great solution, and his contact will be around the same.

That would be nice. I hadn't realized how consistently good Jansen has been. He's been as reliable of a reliever as just about any reliever in recent memory. Never fished with an ERA over 3.71 and he's had a FIP over 4 just once. 16 straight years.

That is certainly fair. But I would hold that against Lopez more than I would credit him. He simply isn't used to being a starter the way DeGrom is. And the first time he gets stretched out to be a starter he struggles to stay healthy, and then the following spring he tears his shoulder. Either...

Braves Acquire Mauricio Dubon For Nick Allen

I suppose this means Houston won't be trading Correa. He gives them a lot of flexibility being able to play SS and 3b, and likely OF if needed.

I suppose you could just get Texas to kick in money, without trading Lopez. And then you have DeGrom and Lopez. I just assumed the prospect cost would be higher that way. Lopez doesn't have much value with the injury issue, but Texas need will need a SP replacement anyways and at least Lopez...

No we don't know that. Lopez threw only 135.2 innings. And while the underlying stats were good, it was the first time he had been a starter in years and he struggled to even get through 135 innings healthy. Then he had shoulder surgery this year. So we certainly don't "know" that Lopez is elite...

McCabe's path to a long MLB career is to be an Eric Hinske type of player.

I suppose that is true. However, I could also point out that trading for deGrom and freeing up Lopez' money might allow us to sign someone else we may not otherwise have been able to. Or, if the pitcher we sign is Cease or some other pitcher with a QO, you are also giving up a pick. So in that...

If DeGrom pitches like he did in 2025, then yes, easily.

But Lopez is a likely notably worse pitcher and he is trying to return from should surgery. And he's a pitcher who has thrown over 130 innings exactly once since 2019. DeGrom is actually less of an injury risk.

All pitchers are injury risks. At least the upside is pretty massive.

Jacob DeGrom would be sneaky good play. Maybe we could attach Lopez in the trade to help off-set some salary.

Seagar's contract is just so hard to absorb. I realize on the surface he would probably get 6/180 right now if he were a FA, but he's 31 and he can't stay healthy. You can take that risk on someone like Buxton who only has 3 years remaining. But 6 years at 30m per is tough to take on.

1 year and 16 million. Not exactly a ton of risk there. If Williams gets close to what Tanner Scott got (or better), I'll eat some crow. If he gets 3/45 with an option (like I've seen thrown around on several sites) then Williams would have been a far better option.

And yet time and time again, we see that in FA, players get paid more for actual production, instead of imaginary production. Look I like Williams a lot. I hope the Braves end up signing him. But you are insane if you think his FA potential wasn't affected by the year he had. He was on track...
