2025-2026 offseason thread

There was a measure of arrogance in the manner that Anthopoulos approached last off-season. Arcia ran out of horseshoes and we were left with the worst hitter in MLB manning the SS position. Things maybe look different if Profar doesn't get caught sniffing metaphorical performance enhancing glue and there isn't the avalanche of pitching injuries, but a lot of significant assumptions were made and there was no back-up plan when one was clearly needed.
could have?

100%. You could make a strong argument that the best allocation of the remaining resources should be spent exclusively on pitching

to some degree the die is cast with the rotation and the rest of the team's injury risk.

They put together their team and now they got to live with it.

I do think it's obvious they need at least one SP of average or better quality, but there just isn't a realistic way of protecting themselves from injuries to everybody.

When that happens it just has to hinge on the farm and whatever you can put together from trades or the waiver wire.

Weird move for the Mets and Rangers. It doesn't make any sense unless New York is trying to make room in the OF. But they're still wasting value
Nimmo's contract was beyond awful. Siemens' contract isn't great either, but the Mets do need a 2b and his contract is better than NImmos. They clearly want to add a CFer in FA. Wouldn't be surprised if they land Bellinger.

I like the deal fpr both sides. Mets wer3 trying to upgrade on defense. Nimmo cant play CF anymore due to a foot injury. Having Nimmo and Soto really limited them and it was only going to get worse. Semien and Lindor will give them elite defense up the middle.

This is how I see it. Seemed like a nice deal for both sides and opened up an OF spot for a clear upgrade the Mets badly need. Belli, Tucker or a trade for someone like Buxton seems likely.

Paying a guy $2.25M with a career 3.41 ERA to be your sixth or seventh-best bullpen arm sounds like a total fine option?
That's best case scenario. There is fairly decent sixed chance he is just as terrible as last season.

We literally saved a grand total of of 4.25 million going from Pierce Johnson to Joel Payamps.

Don't get me wrong, I understand AA's rationale with Payamps. He's had a nice career and is a nice gamble. But I don't understand letting Pierce and Kinley walk when the money is comparable and both were clearly better options. My best guess is he's looking for higher impact relievers to solidify the back-end and Payamps was strictly to fill it out.

I have a feeling it's just leverage, but Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Braves are more interested in signing an elite DH than a SS unless something materializes quickly.

Imagine the thump in this lineup with Schwarber. And we could have Angel Hernandez Bobblehead Day every July 4th with fireworks.
