That didn't seem to be the indication. In any event, we can't wait around and assume that. We should be operating now like Schwelly and Waldrep don't exist this season. Figure it out later if they get back. And the Dodgers did lose all of their guys at some point last season. They suffered a...

I don't know if it's punting, but it's running a low-percentage play and putting yourself behind the sticks when you used 19 starting pitchers a year ago and did nothing - again. No, Martin Perez on a minor league deal doesn't count.

Pablo Lopez getting an MRI. Now THAT screams AA trade! We might have him in August!

I mean for Christ's sake, we went and got Jonah Heim to be a backup catcher. We sign every shitty AAAA reliever under the moon who may have had a decent season within the last five years. Apply the same logic for starting pitching.

You have to start somewhere. You don't keep operating from the base position of, "Well at least we have Elder and Wentz around." You build the best starting five that you can. You'll never have a perfectly healthy five or even six because shit happens. But a serious, competent baseball team...

No but two was not unrealistic back in November. AA has put some out of date parameters around his spending on a starter, and he’s too gun shy to make another major trade.

Agreed. Sign two. Have Holmes and Lopez piggyback each other.

And we haven’t even gotten to the point yet where we start seeing the inevitable injuries and underperformance in the bullpen.

If there’s anyone out there left who is a better option than Giolito or Littell, I’m listening. I had no interest in Scherzer. Now it might be necessary for however long he can stay healthy.

If nothing else, getting useful pieces like Giolito and Littell allows you to manage Lopez’s and Holmes’ innings, even Strider’s and Sale’s. They’re not going to get the big ace and they’re not going to make the major deadline splash that requires holding on to the 20+ million before the third...

There were too many opportunities for this not to be a necessity. Probably more of a reason to get two more guys in here and just hope for the best.

39 days until opening day. It would be a good day for AA to acknowledge reality.

We are going to have to rely on Cookie Carrasco. Sounds like a damn Sopranos episode. “Hey Tone, did ya hear about Cookie Carrasco?”

The Braves may honestly just have to Tampa Bay it and operate with 10 relievers - strictly manage Holmes' and Lopez's innings and use openers 2-3 times a week.

Highly doubt either of them is back by the all-star break. I'd be thrilled if they're ready by then.

It will be amusing when AA also fails to add a starter at the deadline and the excuse is Schwellenbach, Waldrep, and AJSS will all be back in August and September.
