    Legal/scotus thread

This is part of why I think there should be fewer hoops to jump through when it comes to certain cases in the legal system, such as executive action. If a President’s executive order is deemed unconstitutional by SCOTUS, we shouldn’t have to wait months for the next clearly unconstitutional act...

And it’s a non-prayer ground for them 364 days and 22.5 hours a year, including times when other religions and groups have events. You’re ultimately claiming that because terrorists attacked us 25 years ago that Muslims should live in the shadows.

…what? A U.S. Navy sailor was medically evacuated Saturday afternoon from an American nuclear-powered submarine by Danish military forces, according to a U.S. and Danish official. The submarine broke from its mission and surfaced about eight miles from Nuuk, Greenland, an extraordinary step...

If I were trying to aggressively assert religious dominance over my neighbors, I don’t know that organizing an annual prayer event with the city that passes out free food after is the way I’d do it.

I’m going to back away from spending my day talking about suicide and its derivatives because it fucks me up, but contextually there can be valid explanations for this. Many, many more people die from the entirety of terminal illnesses than gunshots in America. If provided the option to die...

I read the report on the ensuing tweet and I agree with the concerns listed. I would point out that in the timeframes listed, these are exceedingly small numbers that are dwarfed by the number of Americans who suffer from similar issues due to an inability to pay for such care. But that’s not a...

Yes, that is a much different debate and one I’m not going to attempt to rebut. For me, this portion comes down to the consent of the patient, but I can respect the argument that it’s always morally inappropriate for the government to be involved in causing the death of its people. In terms of...

Again, what is the alternative here? Healthcare doesn’t spring up from the ground naturally in America if you have one of these conditions. No insurance will just cover any and all treatments you want, so your options are to suffer with it, pay for new treatments somewhere or put a bullet in...

Suicide prevention is a topic I’m well-versed in, and I think this misses the mark. Presently, Canada only offers MAID as an option for those with a diagnosis that will imminently result in their death. They’ve delayed implementation of MAID for mental health and the guidance suggests they would...

So poor countries can’t get medical care because that’s globalism and Americans can’t get medical care because that’s socialism. But we can give healthcare to the healthy Greenland residents that already have access to free healthcare?

They’re using that tax money to pay these people for their labor in order to provide public services so that people don’t have to shovel themselves out. And by doing it this way, they’re paying temporary day labor instead of staffing additional city employees or needing additional contracts to...

To be fair, we don’t need ICE going after the shovelers. Would be counter-productive to the ice removal process.

Where are you seeing this? I went looking for anything to support this claim and I’m only seeing a voluntary MAID program, which is a much different thing. It’s undoubtedly an ethical quandary, but one that doesn’t really have much to do with who’s footing the bill for the doctor to do it.

Government fraud and endless debt are a bipartisan endeavor, and I think neither side has a handle on how to handle crime or government programs. My main sticking point on programs and criminal justice reform is that I think both can be reformed.

No, I’ve likened tariffs to the minimum wage increase for this reason. I don’t expect or want the government to set rates. I want the government to say shit like “hey, maybe you can’t fire someone for being gay” or “hey, maybe you can’t expect employees to work off the clock.”
