yeah i agree that lopez and (especially) holmes should start the year in the bullpen. a pen with lopez/holmes/johnson/lee/lopez/bummer is already pretty strong without signing anyone.

yeah it's the same issue with [most] of snit's boneheaded moves. all the little stuff adds up over time, it's one of the reasons the dodgers and rays are consistently so much better than other teams with similar payrolls.

How reliable is stuff+ though? My understanding is that it's still pretty experimental. This paper seems to think it's still pretty lacking compared to other stats (namely xwOBA) that take batted ball outcomes into account...

in an ideal world he's probably best out of the bullpen anyway. he's ok as a fifth starter, but his results fall off a cliff the second time through the order. first time through the order though he pitches like someone a competitive team could trust to be a high leverage reliever.

I wasn't able to watch the game, but I see that statcast has him throwing a sinker instead of a four-seamer like last year. i don't recall seeing anything about him changing up his repertoire - does the sinker look more viable than the four-seamer?
