I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

Nope. The IRS applies the law in a reasonable and equitable way. If you make a mistake they send you a notification to correct it, with a small interest payment added to the amount you owe. A similarly pragmatic approach to the problem of undocumented migrants might be to send the ones who...

To help you do this banks provide tax documents with the necessary information. So not only is it the law, there is also a convenient mechanism for finding the correct amount to report. But law and order is something that some people are fond of trotting out only when congenial to their...

People are in jail for disfavored opinions. A judge just ordered the release of one of them. Mahmoud Khalil.

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

It should be noted that defunding ICE and defunding the IRS both work to increase law breaking. I'm personally opposed to both. I find it amusing that our avatars of law and order are so excited about the idea of neutering the IRS. Makes me wonder if law and order is really their thang. I...

I thought y'all viewed tax avoidance as a moral virtue. Witness the enthusiasm for reducing funding for the IRS.

Yes and no if they have been here over 5 years and been otherwise law abiding and contributing members of society. I think for those people we should have an amnesty and pathway to citizenship.

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

Yes. If they committed a crime they should be deported. But those who have come here to work and done that should be valued and treated with respect. It is not beyond our capacity to have compassion for people who leave their countries under dire circumstances and come here for work. I'm...

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

I'm opposed because people who have been here a long time and worked and contributed should be valued. They are an asset to our country.

Indeed. We should deport everyone who spent any time here on an expired visa. Fair is fair.

Well there are a lot of demonstrations pushing for an end to mass deportation but not the abolishing of ICE. I would daresay we are a strong majority.

No. Most criminals have families and we have no trouble dealing with them.

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

I have similar views. We should pass a law regularizing the status of people who have been here five-years or longer and give them a pathway to citizenship.

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

it is not a state responsibility....the federal government has plenty of resources to enforce its laws...unless the courts rule otherwise I believe that states and cities are within their legal rights not to cooperate with federal law enforcement...and certainly in the case of the mass...

what did i say to make you think that...the federal government has the constitutional power and the resources to do this...if a state decided not to allow its resources to be used for that purpose i believe that is also allowed under the constitution

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

it sure does...and states and localities have authority over their resources what's the problem...the constitution gives the president authority to pursue mass deportations but not authority over state and local resources in the pursuit of that end and the constitution gives us the right to...

I didn’t vote for Trump but I’m cautiously optimistic

i dunno...states have discretion in a federal system...like DeSantis said he wouldn't extradite a certain felon but i think this is a much more serious situation...we have been invaded and occupied and our national identity is at stake
