Snit was asking players if it was okay if he gave them a day off, and then calling another player to let them know that he gave someone a day off. I don't think he is the leader.

We have a ton of young guys on the team who speak other languages. This actually might be a better argument for him being the leader.

    Braves sign Kirby Yates.

There was definitely still choking in October. It was just consensual.

Opposing something because of my heritage doesn't mean I'm upset. It just means I have an issue with it. I've been handling it fine for all these years that I've been rooting for this team. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it change so people can move on.

Oh, I see. I misunderstood where you were coming from (or you misunderstood where I was, or both). I was talking about how Native Americans see the name. I don't see it as any particular intent from the fans, but this thing I love still hurts other people I love. It's a strange place to be.

I personally think the Braves should donate 10% of the team to the local tribes, embrace the element of being the first "Native-owned" team in MLB, do away with the chop and tomahawk, and see if it is possible to have the name take on a different meaning. But that won't happen.

I mean, that's not true, but it's not like we're going to fix this problem by talking about it on a forum. The savage and wild stereotype has kept people from jobs, from fair trials, from bettering their lives, from being able to fully cooperate in the "pursuit of happiness" that is at the root...

That said, I think the combo of the chop, the tomahawk, Chief Nocahoma, and the name has just been way too much. Those other elements makes it clear in what way the term Braves is meant to be used in this context.

The term "Braves" (which did not come from Native Americans) is derived from indios bravos (wild, untamed, savage) and has been linked with the Latin barbarus (barbarous). This is not a compliment, but rather just another way that early settlers dehumanized the Native Americans. It's not hard to...
