Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

Some fans will be after AA with their pitch forks if Freeman isn’t resigned, but it’ll wear off when we keep winning. I wonder what the other players on the team will think. He’s the leader in the clubhouse. Who steps up?

I mean Acuña is the best player on the team by far regardless of if we keep Freeman and he is also full of positive energy.

This is a bad take.

First off the value of the traded prospects isn't booned or busted because of the players busting.

Second we didn't have Tex for a year and a half we had him for a year. Looking at the total trade value we received

Braves got
Tex 6.1 rWAR
Mahay 0.8 rWAR
Kotchamn 0.7 rWAR
LaRoche 2.0 rWAR

They traded away (using only first 6 seasons of course)
Andrus - 17.2
Feliz - 5.3
Harrison - 2.9
Salty - 1.2

Now if we won we'd have a debate, But that's a lot of excess value to be trading away. Again if we won, it would be worth it. But we weren't in a position to win. We could have traded those guys for other assets. It wasn't a collossal break the team forever trade, the only A piece we lost was Andrus, but that was a hig loss for us. Can you imagine how much better we would have been in 2010 and 2011 with Andrus instead of Escobar and Gonzalez?

All fair points. I still don’t hate the initial trade. Making sure we got his “replacement” and pigeonholing us into trading him for Kotchman was by far the worst aspect. Replenish the farm with extra prospects, find a different 1b and get better players elsewhere, get the damn draft pick(which turned into Mike Trout) but no we had to get Kotchman.

Yes but he's not white.

We need someone the "single game ticket buyer" base is going to go wild over. Dansby is too meh. Maybe Riley is the new white knight.
 
Tex got off to a slow start in 2008 which was very frustrating. If I recall correctly the comp pick the Angels got for losing Tex they selected Mike Trout. Andrus/Feliz/Salty was a big F'n deal. First two we sold on really early. Only sky rocketed in value until they they hit the majors.

And we missed the playoffs both years. He was gone before July the following year that we traded for him. Again, he didn't make a difference for this team despite how well he played in his short time here.

Andrus was a 2 time all-star and has accumulated 30 career bWAR through 2021. He alone makes that trade one of the worst of all time. But to go further:

Matt Harrison - 8.9 career bWAR, 1 AS appearance, 1 season with a Top 8 finish in CY voting
Feliz - 7.3 bWAR, 1 AS appearance.
Saltalmacchia - 5.9 bWAR


So that's over 52 career bWAR that we gave away for roughly a year of production from Tex. Bums indeed.....

The Tex trade is widely panned as one of the worst of all time, and for several years after that was used as an industry baseline when sports writers talked about the returns for star payers in potential trades. How those players turned out is irrelevant to the overall value of those prospects at the time of the trade. But regardless of that fact, we ended up trading away a package of players that have accumulated over 50 career bWAR collectively through 2021. Either way you cut it, it was one of the worst trades of all time.

Feliz actually attempted a comeback in 2021, but he was pretty bad. 2016 is the last time he was a good reliever.

Snit was asking players if it was okay if he gave them a day off, and then calling another player to let them know that he gave someone a day off. I don't think he is the leader.

Acuña has been around a few years now and he’s the guy the team is going to be built around. A potential 8 WAR a year player on a long term extremely team friendly deal.

Watch how they carry themselves. I love Acuna but Freeman has more leadership qualities than Acuna. I could see Riley sliding into that role if Freeman leaves or Swanson. You don’t have to be a star to be a leader.
