    Should We Be Worried?

Bourn has not been particularly good defensively this season, though. He is hitting .261/.315/.352 which is better than BJ, no doubt. And really, when you look at it, he never actually has been a great offensive player--good, some years, but he's not a 5 year 60 million player from age 30-34.

    Should We Be Worried?

We would be pissed that we overspent for a 30 year old whose production has declined significantly this season, continuing a trend that began in the second half of 2012, and who is still owed 53 million over the next four years.

Petco kills him, though. His road numbers: .239/.318/.358

    Remember when folks reall thought

That we should trade for Chase Headley and bench Chris Johnson? .241/.335/.377 Yeah, right.

    What to do with CF?

Since the All-star break BJ: .234/.288/.309 (Gosh-awful horrible) JS: .182/.241/.221 (worse)

8-31-13 GDT: Marlins at Braves(Justin still out)

Until he quits producing. Say what you want, he was one of the few (2) Braves who had a hard hit off of the marlins last night.

Braves Claim Elliot Johnson off Release Waivera

He's a body. Somebody to eat IF innings defensively so we can PH for Janish. A no cost-no loss type of guy. He won't be on the post season roster.

Did the Braves miss the boat on IF Depth?

Agree. At worst, all we need now is a body, or two. No need to sacrifice anything until Uggla returns. Janish and Gosselin are fine for now, Plus, Uggla isn't two weeks away, he is eligible for reinstatement on the 27th, and we only have 6 games before then.

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

I understand he's no Brooks Robinson. But he's defense has been OK, even by the stat measurement, and more importantly, even by the stat measurement, has steadily improved over the season, probably due to him playing day in and day out for the first time in his career. And by my eyeball test...

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

His defense has been OK, regardless of what the very suspect defensive metrics say.

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

To quote Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that", especially if his defense continues to be OK, which it is. Also, especially at his cost for the next 3 years.

Did We Give Up on Juan Francisco Too Soon?

All that is true. That said in now 1725 career PAS, CJ has a BABIP of .365. That's getting to be a pretty fair sample size.

    Position players and WAR

I think that with enough sample size defensive metrics do a pretty good job of telling you who is the best SS, the best RF etc. However, I think they do a pretty inaccurate job of quantifying runs saved, wins, etc. I will take a 4owar/1 dwar guy all day over a 1owar/4dwar guy.

    Bingo.

    Position players and WAR

    Agree completely with that.

    GDT 8/14/2013: Phillies @ Braves

Um, no. He is third in the league in walks. In limited time Pastor seems to be a good contact hitter who doesn't walk much or hit for much power.
