    2025 Spring Training Thread

Don’t know about Strider, but Schwellenbach was a decent hitter in college. Pretty good shortstop too. Maybe he can be Ohtani light and replace Arcia a couple of days a week.

    2025 Spring Training Thread

Am I wrong in saying that low OBP is this offense's Achilles heel? Without Acuña we don't have a lot of high OBP options for leadoff, or really any spot in the lineup beyond Ozuna or Olson (if he hits for enough average to keep it up). Profar was good last year but he doesn't have a track...

    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

No one gets it right 100% of the time. Even the GMs of teams with the ability to have billion dollar payrolls and defer money until the next millenium. With you 100%. The sky isn't falling, but no need to pretend everything went according to plan.

John Rocker to box Pat Mahomes Sr

Pat was a hell of an athlete in his day. Was headed to Arkansas to be a part of Nolan Richardson's 40 Minutes of Hell, as part of the class with Lee Mayberry, Todd Day, and Oliver Miller which went to a Final Four and won four conference titles, had he not signed to play pro baseball. If...

    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

The Ozuna contract was a bad decision that ended up working out better than it probably should have...at least at the back end. As recently as May 2023 anyone suggesting that Ozuna would be a Brave in 2025 would have been justifiably laughed off the board.

    Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

"Handed the keys to a Rolls Royce" seems like an exaggeration. AA deserves all the blame for the terrible offseason if this is the team that takes the field on Opening Day, but lets not pretend that he had little or nothing to do with getting them to the point where we as fans can have...

Looking for Tickets for Twins series, 4-18

Last time we were there we stayed at the Aloft Battery. It was fine, and a very convenient walk. It was kind of nice being down there close by and not having to worry about parking, walking across 285 via the pedestrian bridge, etc. We booked the rooms within a day or two of the schedule...

Looking for Tickets for Twins series, 4-18

Yes. Similar to the Delta Club below, but without the all you can eat/all you can drink option. I like the view there better than in the all-inclusive area. Just high enough to get a full view of the field. Plus, when my wife goes there is zero chance we get full value out of...

Looking for Tickets for Twins series, 4-18

I've had better luck with SeatGeek than the other sites. They are currently showing some in the XFinity club (2nd level behind home plate) in the low $200s including fees. I would imagine more would pop up closer to game time. We sat in this section for the Sunday game of the Cardinals series...

Andruw Jones HOF voting currently at 73.8% he needs 75%

Completely agree with this. I'm content with Dale not being in because his career wasn't good enough, long enough, or whatever. I'm not okay with him being excluded while equal or lesser players got in because they played in bigger markets. I won't make judgments on guys who played before I...

Andruw Jones HOF voting currently at 73.8% he needs 75%

That's reasonable. Next comparison: Dale Murphy vs. Jim Rice. Murph is the type of player the dinosaurs should have loved. Ton of counting stats, multiple MVPs, five GGs in an era without defensive analytics. Similar stats and WAR. Rice was a DH much of his career, and was clearly...

Not according to this from The Athletic. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6059101/2025/01/14/baseball-hall-of-fame-ballots-2025/?source=emp_shared_article Keith Law’s ballot Carlos Beltrán, Andruw Jones, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Chase Utley

I think Murphy being in CF, the position of DiMaggio and Mantle, versus at 1B would've given him extra juice as well. And at the time Murph was considered an elite defender in CF, before we had metrics to show otherwise.

Very much so. Had Dale Murphy put up the exact same career (including lack of postseason appearances) in New York, Boston, Chicago, or LA he would be in the Hall today. Had he done it as a Yankee he likely would've been in no later than his second ballot.

It was something to do with facilitating the sale to Time Warner if I remember right. Locking in a low cost deal for the TV network which TW owned (I think). I used to drink a lot, so I may be misremembering the details. But it was done in a shady fashion and screwed the team...I do know that...

Braves fire Seitzer and assistant hitting coach. Also Fasano.

Sometimes even good coaches fail to resonate with the guys they are teaching. Maybe whatever Seitzer was doing with them got stale, or the guys started tuning him out. It's a lot easier to get rid of coaches than to rebuild the roster.
