Braves trade for Chris Sale - Grissom going to Red Sox (Extension through 26 at 18M)

Trading Grissom to get a legitimate starter for 500k is a great move regardless of how it works out. Anthopolous is only going to make deals on his own terms and I'm a fan.

It's completely fair. The purpose of the business is to make money.

Fangraphs: What, exactly, are the Braves up to?

Cool and if the Braves had gone out and signed one, there is a 80% chance it would have gone poorly based on the performance of guys that moved and well the offense still would not have performed. So no change in the outcome but out the prospects anyway. The very small percentage increase of...

This is an unrealistic expectation out of any sports franchise, let alone one owned by a publicly traded corporation with responsibilities to shareholders. Sports franchises are profitable businesses not charities run for the benefit of the public. People/companies don't buy them to lose money.

Fangraphs: What, exactly, are the Braves up to?

In 1983 perhaps. Not in 2023 when starters throw with max effort and are expected to go through the order maybe twice.

Fangraphs: What, exactly, are the Braves up to?

It's pretty rare for Anthopolous to up his bid or panic when options get limited. He tends to stand firm on it. Someone else probably brings in the high bid on the remaining folks. I would lean towards the Braves not bringing anyone else in that folks here would see as an obvious upgrade.

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

Maybe I'm in the minority then that never really thinks about trading Ozuna. Seems like an appropriately priced asset heading into a contract year with probably very little trade value. Coming off his best year. Nothing really out there to replace him, wouldn't save much money if you did...

Except Grissom is a borderline player at best who you're all desperate to trade and only has real value as a trade asset, Scwellenback is a position player turned reliever transitioning to a starter whose already been injured and likely will never be anything. Probably one decent piece in the...

It's really pretty amazing how often he comes up with stupid **** to move him. I doubt the Braves are even considering it.

I'd certainly give up Schwelley. He's a long shot at best.

I wondered why Apple or Amazon didn't scoop up the FSNs when Bally bought them. I guess given that Bally ended up in BKY it makes sense.

I think maybe they hoped someone might eat a million or two if it. Didn't spend much time worrying about it though, did they?

Would everyone feel better if the Braves had traded away prospects to get one of the mostly fisppointong pitchers who actually did move and then still lose because they didn't hit in the playoffs? Or do we just want to assume we traded for the only guy who actually made a positive playoff...

    Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

It's not that illogical unless you try and make it seem like the argument is being made by simpletons. The cost of acquiring a "third starter" in a bidding war or through trade may not be justified by a small increase of a single season's championship chance (at the expense of future...

2024 FG Projections : Atlanta Braves

The refusal to make a bad long term move coinciding with a disappointing outcome on other grounds isn't justification to make the bad long term move the next time. Makes deals when they make sense rather than for the fans.

    Deferred money deferential

Secured means there is a lien or other priority interest on specific property. A contract gives legal recourse to the parties, but if we are talking bankruptcy may not be much obstacle.
