That's all well and good, but have we all not watched enough baseball to know how volatile bullpens can be? There will certainly be injuries and certainly be underperformance. There are still plenty of guys that can be had and none of them will cost an amount that will shrink the contention window. There hasn't been one pitching contract signed this offseason that would shrink the Braves' contention window. Maybe seven years for Nola is a bit much and heartburn-inducing.

That and he got rid of Wright, Shuster, and Soroka as SP depth as well, and he's replaced them with...... Looks around? Umm? Right now the only options for the 4-5 slots are AJSS, Elder, Vines, Winans, Waldrep isnt ready, maybe Lopez but i think he's better in a BP role.

We could probably get away with them given how deep the bullpen is but if something happens to anyone above that... Yikes. Do agree AA has to have a move for the rotation left or this offseason makes no sense.

I'd say a front line started is absolutely not needed for 2024
 
Monty was like the only guy who got traded that would have made a difference. And unless he had magical super powers to make our offense hit, then i'm not sure how much a difference he would have made as well.

Check the roster. Ynoa is likely the first in line for the 5th starters job. Anderson will be back at some point this year as well. How easily we forget about our injured players. Dodd also made some starts last year if we're really worried about losing that Shuster quality depth.
 
People not wanting to pay the price (in trade) for a starter now wont like the price at the deadline either. Outside of Fried and Strider our rotation is a question mark. Unacceptable for a team in our position.

Morton and elder both projected 2.3 fWAR on zips.

It's not that illogical unless you try and make it seem like the argument is being made by simpletons.

The cost of acquiring a "third starter" in a bidding war or through trade may not be justified by a small increase of a single season's championship chance (at the expense of future seasons).

I'm sure if a good deal presents itself the Braves will move on it, but thankfully the Braves haven't made most of the long term deals that folks wanted them to.

Would everyone feel better if the Braves had traded away prospects to get one of the mostly fisppointong pitchers who actually did move and then still lose because they didn't hit in the playoffs?

Or do we just want to assume we traded for the only guy who actually made a positive playoff impact?

We are measuring long term interest vs a very small improvement in championship position. It's usually not worth it.
 
Another comment about the oddness of this offseason. AA is buying lottery tickets, which isn’t something teams ever do in the middle of their peak contention years, so that’s likely why it’s a confusing strategy to most. To clarify, “confusing” does not mean I hate AA, Kelenic, or the Braves.

8:02 It's been quite the whirlwind, and frankly, I'm not sure the end result has been all that positive? Individually, the deals all make sense, yet the sum total of all these moves has added a pretty significant sum to Atlanta's payroll and tax number, without a ton of obvious gain on the roster.

Now, if Kelenic or if one of the lesser-known players like Ray Kerr breaks out, this will look like a much wiser move.
