    Braves re-sign Pierce Johnson

There was still a chance that Albies would not make it when AA guaranteed him $25mil. I agree, Albies should have been advised to not sign, but he seems sharp and knew what he was signing.

    Austin Riley

That chart lists HP to 1B times also, and has Albies first, even though his top sprint speed is a not great. Riley to 1B is not among the top few, but he does have a good top speed. Pretty cool to see the lefty advantage to 1st.

    Morton out for NLDS

Enscheff definitely knows his pitch data. But I thought that was pretty much what was know with Waldrep, his fastball was MLB level, but the key was practically no one throws such a devastating splitter with such a slow spin rate. And if they did, the rest of their stuff was junk.

    Triple Digits

Not necessarily because he's pitching well tonight, but I'd pick up Odorizzi's option. If the numbers I just looked at are right, we pay $3.25 mil if we let him go, then another $3.25 to keep him. In effect, resigning him for $3.25 mil is worth the insurance to me. Trade him etc if we don't...

    SP options

This season seems the perfect year to test the youngsters. All you need to do is be average and make the playoffs. You don't run into that issue of having to watch seasonal innings buildup numbers. We have a very strong bullpen so we can better cover many of the issues that come with young...

    The Braves DH

Assuming Duvall is back at 2019 and not 2018 levels, I'd cover DH and LF with fairly equal numbers of at bats from Neck, Ozuna, and Duvall. Ozuna should be the better hitter, Duvall the better fielder, and then Markakis getting a bump due to being the only left hander.

MLB optimistic about starting season in late June

So they gave the players an advance and agreed on prorated salaries. Owners want to pay less. The owners need to find more revenue and longer playoffs, some fans coming back later in the season or by the playoffs, etc would help. I'd go for it. Play however many games would end the season a...

MLB optimistic about starting season in late June

I have to wonder if some of the lost revenue for fan attendance can't come from selling the TV, etc rights. Are the teams currently being paid an annual or per game TV contracts? Expand the playoffs and make it all pay per view, that could make up a ton of revenue. I understand contracts...

    Riley vs Camargo

Seems and easy choice to me, let Riley get more minor league at bats. When he hits one of his usual hot streaks, bring him up. How long do we have to leave him down to gain some contractual control?

    Spring has Sprung

Thanks for that info CLV. I think I'd set a rule in my head as a GM to never extend a pitcher on their rookie contract. For sure it would come back to bite me occasionally, but it just seems too risky. I always think back to one of my favorite Braves ever, Steve Avery when I think of what can...

I sort of had the impression that Riley also has a history of being extremely streaky. So if he does somewhat figure it out, we'll still have to expect those type surges, ala his comparison Troy Glauss.

Yep, you could argue that the collapse of Nick Esasky and Bruce Sutter is what stopped the run the Braves were on in the early 80s.

I'm not saying that I want Albies to bunt or hit a weak grounder behind the hitter, I just assume the stats would support that a pop up with runners on is just as bad as a strike out. And only better than not hitting into a double play. Glad to read that Waters is a better from the left side...

One of the bigger issues I have with our likely lineup is Albies sux in the #2 slot at getting runners over. He pops up way too often. I guess that's better than hitting into a double play but still. I hadn't realized how right hand heavy our lineup might be if all our prospects hit. Aren't...

Braves sign OF Marcell Ozuna to 1 yr, 18 Million.

True Super, some sports radio guys like to rile things up and look at things the wrong way even worse than fans do. Southcrack hit it pretty close, Arenado's value really is in the range of a QO draft pick.

Braves sign OF Marcell Ozuna to 1 yr, 18 Million.

I get Clv's point. A local radio announcer (Chuckery) was ranting last night about how we needed to give up Pache+ to go get Arenado. But as we can see, their GM quickly announced Arenado was not leaving a couple of days ago after he did not receive an offer that he figured his fans would...

With the low spin rate numbers, I just assumed it was an error. But now that we've heard from the pitching coach, etc, maybe Anderson was just throwing "get me over curves" when these stats were recorded. Hopefully he already has a 500 RPM better spinner in there and just wasn't using it. It...

Ozuna seemed to have figured it out in 2017, apparently not. I'd pass.
