05/12 Nats @ Braves A National Embarrassment

Kenley Jansen is a high leverage pitcher on an expiring contract. He isn't going to cost a major prospect. May be not even anyone in our current top 10.

Ditto for Kyle Finnegan and Pete Fairbanks. And that's without factoring teams that will most likely sell at the deadline, like Minny, Baltimore, Cincy, Toronto, Milwaukee, etc.
Fairbanks is controlled for 26 on a team option.. he would actually cost something.. the other two are no better than Riggy/Lee/Bummer/prince albert/DH/Save-it.. would any of them move the needle in a playoff push? Finnegan walks the world and Jansen is pushing 38 with declining K rates... these guys are not elite.

I would much rather save any bullets AA has on hitters or maybe a starter depending on health and effectiveness.

Just because the BP is not awful does not mean we don't need upgrades. BP pieces are relatively cheap at the deadline and a shutdown pen is critical for deep playoff success.
Nobody said we couldn’t upgrade. But I’ve seen people acting like the bullpen is some huge hole. Someone just insinuated it a few posts up. It just isn’t true.

Jansen is proven to be better than virtually every reliever on our team, save maybe Iglesias. Aside from 1 outing, he's been near untouchable this year.

I would easily put Finnegan no worse than our 4th best reliever if he were currently in our pen. He currently has a higher WAR than all but 2 pitchers in our pen and he has more WAR than anyone in our pen over the last 3 seasons, save Iglesias.

I am not basing my opinion of KJ on 10 innings of work around 1 bad outing... he is an above average reliever that would be nice to have... but I am not wasting my bullets (even if they are not much of bullets) to marginally improve the team.. Finn will cost more and is probably better.. but he is controlled with a team option which is even more valuable than just an extra year of control.

Maybe if AA would have spent the 10 million this offseason to get KJ, then we wouldn't be having this convo.. but he didn't
