#1 Farm System

Perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise given that we had way more top 100 prospects than any other team, but for what its worth Keith Law ranked us as the #1 farm system in baseball for the second year in a row. Despite my concerns with the process we took during this rebuild, we have had some pretty great drafts and have built one hell of a system.

The drafting and previous international signings prior to Coppy have been tremendous. The biggest complaint for me has been what we've gotten in return, for the most part, in our trades when we started this process. Overall we are in great shape going forward.

The kimbrel deal was the real killer in the sell off. I don't consider the wood deal as one of the sell offs. It was just a staight up awful deal.

I also don't think we should lump international signings with any gm. The staffing for that department is handled at higher levels and the autonomy rests wit the international department. I don't think a gm has much to do with any international signing.

Agreed. It could have been better, but it certainly could have been worse.

For that matter I don't believe any amateur drafting/signing should rest with a gm. With everything a gm has to do with the major league club there is no way they could have the requisite knowledge to effectively target amateur players. Once a player is brought into the organization however it's on the gm what happens with trades and obvious signings of free agents.

That's pretty much exactly where I am.

I would take some issue with the drafting of players. GM can try to manipulate the draft and play the slot bonus game. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But that strategy falls directly with the GM.

It's possible but I just think a baseball organization is much more siloed. That's how all organizations work. Centers of excellence.

Tell that to Manfred. Or to Coppy, if you can find the community college where he’s teaching.

I don't think Coppy is teaching anywhere. I think he's taking classes at Burger King University in the manager trainee program. Of course, he'd have to report to the IRS the actual earnings of every employee, so that might not work out. There's always a Subway franchise.

I think part of it was going to be John hart being fired bit he has a long standing relationship with the MLB so they didn't want to embarrass him. JS/Hart and the head of international operations should have been the ones that were canned.

Subway sounds right. He should be kicking it with Jared for his crimes against the Braves.

It makes you wonder...

Why all the cheating for so many mediocre international prospects?

I think it's hilarious they got caught cheating so that they could make a big splash on the international market and the money they spent was on a whole bunch of meh. Somebody screwed up badly.
