The thing I find funny in the reaction to yesterday's game is that after getting shelled by the Phillies last week, folks were calling Teheran a #4 or #5. Against a team with a possible playoff slot on the line, he pitches his best game of the season and we hardly hear "Boo" from the same folks who were deriding him last week.
Yeah, I said he could end up being a #4 or #5 on OUR staff in the future...that's true. There are easily 3 high ceiling pitchers in our minors that could be ahead of him in the future and that's not counting if Folty takes a step forward. That's not saying Julio is not good. I think he is a solid #2 on every team and a #1 on some. He pitched great today. Let's not forget that he was shelled in the last game and just about half of the time didn't have that "good" stuff (but pitched thru it). When he has his velocity, he is a ace. Problem is...most ace's velocity does not change like Julio's does. Like someone else said though "If he is the #4 or #5 on our staff...we have a incredible staff". This is true, and was the exactly what I could see happening with as many horses in the stable that we have "up and coming". Remember we will most likely add another few in the next draft.
Julio is the very definition of a #2. That means he will occasionally throw up a stinker, followed by an absolute gem. Then at the end of the year he will have posted 3-4 WAR over 180-200 innings and everyone will say, "yeah, he's pretty damn good".
Folks suffer from recency bias way too much. They want to extend everyone that gets hot for 2 weeks, and dump everyone that struggles for a month.

Yep. I remember someone saying the we were being exposed Friday night playing a playoff team at full strength... that guy was just jumping to conclusions based on 1 game.
