116th Congress

I actually think representatives should make MORE money but be barred from from joining any companies after their service within an industry that they are casting votes on.

Politics making strange bedfellows !!

I agree. Perhaps, in addition to the legislation we are already working

on together to ban Members of Congress from becoming lobbyists, we can

team up here as well. A simple, clean bill making birth control available over the counter.

Interested?

This is getting interesting.

How much will they do and how far will they go ?

Birth control should be over the counter. I remember the dems shutting down that idea in 2015.

Banning lobbying unconstitutional

last I checked this is the second half of 2019.
Not 2015.

Obama is no longer the President ---

you should be forced to stand in front of the ... - at the blackboard and write it 100 times
like a recalcitrant child

Is banning lobbying unconstitutional ?
Not that that is anyone's agenda

FWIW, Democratic opposition to that bill hinged on insurance coverage for contraception, not opposition to the idea of birth control being OTC.

and we have a bunch of slave owners that founded this country and are worshipped as great people that simultaneously while owning humans wrote a document that people think should in no way be changed said "all men are created equal"

This could never work. Anyone who spends any amount of time in Congress will vote on things that affect every industry in their time. There are also situations like with John McCain who recuses himself on alcohol related bills because he got his fortune from alcohol but refused to do so when it comes to marijuana which greatly affects his alcohol stocks. I dont know what the answer is. Maybe a freeze on buying stocks while in office? Maybe beef up the ethics department and give them the power to force recusal when there is a conflict of interest.

You cant' stop the corruption by focusing on their time in Congress. It has to be about what they get when they leave. Many of these politicians get seats on the boards of the companies they helped paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. The gravy train is at the end of the trip.

I dont see how you would separate the legitimate from the illegitimate. I think it would just cause many people to not run for office because of how badly it would hamper their ability to earn a living afterwards. Even under your proposal it wouldnt stop those same companies from financing re-election for candidates that shill for them. There all kinds of tricks to funnel campaign money to your family and friends.

I think as a condition of being a Congressman all their communication should be recorded by the FBI. Maybe not looked at in real time but logged for evidence purposes if there is a credible accusation. No one is forced to run for Congress so if they dont like it they dont have to run. I think they should wear patches on their suits like NASCAR drivers indicating their biggest donors while in the chambers of Congress. The integrity and security of the country should trump any privacy concerns of Congressmen. They love to give away our rights in the name of security, I think its time we returned that favor.

edit - one thing I will give AoC credit for is she is very open about a lot of small details about Congress that werent widely known.

.@AOC:
“Ending the War on Drugs has to mean changing our priorities in order to keep all
communities safe and healthy. The best way we do that is by offering people the help and
support they need before arrest & criminalization should be considered in the first place.”

Omar should be removed from office.

But, this is what an absurd immigration policy gets us.

The real hysterical aspect of bailing out college debt is that its a handout to relatively provilidged indivuals at the expense of people who are not.
