116th Congress

The only reason she has survived is because she is a Muslim.

The dems are making a very smart calculation that attacking jews is much better political strategy than attacking muslims.

Agreed. The left has no principles. Its all about votes

The panicked narrative of AOC as a dimwitted neophyte don't match up with the work she is doing.

"Ocasio-Cortez: “Would it be correct, Dr. Kesselheim, to characterize the NIH [National Institutes of Health] money that is being used in development and research as an early investment? The public is acting as an early investor in the production of these drugs. Is the public receiving any sort of direct return on that investment from the highly profitable drugs that are developed from that research?”

Kesselheim: “No, in most cases there is—when those products are eventually handed off to a for-profit company, there aren’t licensing deals that bring money back into the coffers of the NIH. That usually doesn’t happen.”

Ocasio-Cortez: “So the public is acting as an early investor, putting tons of money in the development of drugs that then become privatized, and then they receive no return on the investment that they have made.”

Kesselheim: “Right.”

"Martin Shkreli, the former pharma CEO and current federal inmate, epitomized this mindset in 2015 when he defended his decision to raise the price of Daraprim, the only approved drug for a rare disease called toxoplasmosis, by 5,000 percent. 'No one wants to say it, no one's proud of it, but this is a capitalist society, a capitalist system and capitalist rules,' he said. 'And my investors expect me to maximize profits, not to minimize them or go half or go 70 percent but to go to 100 percent of the profit curve.'

Ocasio-Cortez unearthed a very different story about pharmaceutical innovation that is not widely understood by consumers: most of these drugs would not exist if it weren’t for public investment. This does not mean that the private sector is completely inept or that the public sector is anywhere near perfect, but it does mean story we tell about economic prosperity in America is deeply flawed. Every single one of the 210 new drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 2010 to 2016 was developed thanks to NIH’s taxpayer-funded research."

BREAKING: House just passed resolution condemning anti-semitism and bigotry with a vote of 407-23. All Democrats voted for it. 23 Republicans voted against it. I think that says all we need to know.

There are a lot of Reps who are pretending.

tax cuts for the wealthy
privatizing everything
long term systemactic voter suppression

I thought you identified yourself as a, ahem, Libertarian.

You mean tax cuts for everyone?

How is privatizing things an effort to give them more power? Isn't it the opposite?

I am a libertarian

One is "icky" and "troubling"

The other is "nasty, racist, anti-semetic, homophobic, etc"

The only difference I can see here is the letter next to their name and the fact that one of them directly said it from the horses mouth, and the other didn't. But as I've asked you 1,000 times, if he is so incredibly racist, you can easily find ONE example of him saying something over 40 years.

No? It only took Omar two months before Nancy had to draft resolution to cover for her

Directly and intentionally marketing explicitly bigoted material to an explicitly bigoted audience is not bigoted behavior. Got it.

is there some other quote i haven't seen from Omar that seems to be anti-Semitic?

i know the religious right that will support anything Israel does cause they think they need certain thing to be done there so they can have their end of days party happen sooner than later think anything dissent towards Israels action is anti-Semitic but that just isn't true.

you can be anti israel action and have no problem with jewish people

I know she's not asking for a friend !!!!

House Democratic leaders who drafted a resolution initially aimed at condemning Omar’s remarks received millions from the pro-Israel lobby throughout their congressional careers. Congressman Eliot Engel, who accused Omar of using “a vile antisemitic slur”, has taken about $1.07m throughout his career, or about $107,000 per election.

Meanwhile, some of her staunchest defenders took little or no money from the lobby. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib received no pro-Israel lobby donations during her 2018 campaign, and tweeted that she was “honored” to serve with Omar, who was enduring “ugly attacks”.

Take notice this was published in Guardian in case some of our more staunch pro-Israel posters will approve.
Save your poo-poos

The follow the money notion shines a far different light on Rep Omar and to her point

Interesting @AOC riff on how, while the New Deal prioritized whites, the Green New Deal would focus first on distressed people. "We fix the pipes in Flint first. We fix the electrical grid in Puerto Rico first. And we fully fund the pensions of coal miners in West Virginia."
