119th Congress or Red Wave In Adult Land

Do you believe the legitimate reason Dems oppose this is bc they believe poor people will not be able to afford the required documents to vote?
No, I think they expect it will disadvantage them politically, but I don’t think it’s due to widespread voter fraud schemes either.

I do think there’s some validity to this becoming a burden for the poorest Americans, and I think the best path is compromise where we all need ID to vote but we just don’t make people pay for them.

A burden.

lol

A burden.

What’s the harm in just paying for the damn things if we’re going to create a Federal ID law? I believe the ideal outcome is a secure election with as many citizens voting as possible. I’m fine showing ID, but don’t think it is a poor use of public money to make voting convenient and fee-less.

Is there a charge?
Yes, there is. The amount depends on where you live, but yes. And if you need a form of ID that proves citizenship, that cost is higher.

I don’t see why it’d be an issue to just piggyback off of the current ID and voter registration processes to provide a no-cost voting ID to folks. Have a box to check when someone is getting their DL to receive a separate ID for this that’s compliant, and also have the voter registration process provide for this ID for free if they don’t drive.

Oh man.

I doubt there will be a charge but I won’t hyperventilate about something that hasn’t passed yet
As far as I know, there is no mechanism in this bill that would provide for this. I’m suggesting that something like this should be added to improve the chances of voter ID laws being implemented on a national level.
