2013 Braves draft top-10

Preacher

Where's My Cup of Coffee?
Top-10 picks in the 2013 draft, who's still with the organization, who can make an impact going forward?

#31 Jason Hursh

Certainly a pick the Braves would like to have back, best case he can become a decent 6th-7th inning arm at the MLB level.

#65 Victor Caratini C

No longer with club, was traded to the Cubs in the deal that brought back James Russell and Boni... has always hit pretty well in the minors and was a SL All-Star last year. The Cubs added him to their 40-man.

#102 Carlos Salazar RHP

Big armed reliever has struggled with his command but strikes plenty. 58 Walks / 72 SOs / 51 innings last year. Could be a bullpen piece if the command takes a big jump.

#133 Tanner Murphy C

Defensive catcher that hasn't hit well in the minors.

#163 Mikey Reynolds SS

No longer with the club.

#193 Steve Janas RHP

Janas has developed nicely while finishing last year at AAA, doesn't have great stuff and doesn't miss a ton of bats, but could be a useful piece in the bullpen or potentially a 5th type starter. Good value here.

#223 Ian Stiffler RHP

No longer with the club, career 6.38 ERA.

#253 Kyle Wren OF

Was the first player moved IIRC when Hart/Coppy took over, has put together a solid minor league career, but is more of a AAAA type player with good speed but no power.

#283 Dylan Manwaring 3B/C

No longer with the club, career .158 hitter.

#313 Alec Grosser RHP

Still with the team, only threw 3 innings last year but showed some promise early in his minor league career as a guy who could miss some bats.

What a bad draft overall.... looking at the top 10;

There's a pretty good chance nobody in that group becomes a solid MLB player.

Best case - Hursh/Salazar are middle relievers, Janas is a swing man and Caratini a backup catcher.

The symbolism of the transaction wouldn't have been lost on anybody, but he was probably still better than Jonathan Schuerholz.

Janas was just cut too.. That surprises me as well. He did well as a RP.. but he was buried in our system.

This shocks me. I believe truly he is another victim of the Carolina bus crash. That damn thing has ruined at least six careers that I have counted so far.

Tanner Murphy and Victor Caratini still have potential but even they don't have much. The rest, not so much.

I was never really that high on Tanner. I've watched him a lot. Wasn't impressed with his approach at the plate and his defense was ok. I never found it to stand out. I know I'm in that minority with that, but I've seen him a lot.

It's ok, I have more hype for him based on his TalkingChop interview than is warranted by his actual play.
