ATLANTA -- The Braves have reached an agreement with Garrett Fulenchek, a right-handed pitcher taken in the second round of the First-Year Player Draft.

MLB.com's Jim Callis tweeted Saturday morning that Fulenchek will sign above slot for $1 million and receive eight semesters of college tuition at Dallas Baptist University under the college scholarship plan. As the Draft's 66th overall selection, the 18-year-old pitcher was slotted for an $866,000 signing bonus. The Braves have not confirmed the deal.

Fulenchek is expected to sign his deal on Tuesday and report to the Braves' Spring Training complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Thursday.

The Braves believe Fulenchek's projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame will allow him to add velocity as he goes through the early portion of his professional career. His fastball has sat between 90-94 mph and his slider improved as spent the past few months completing his career at Texas' Howe High School.

"He just kept getting better this year," director of scouting Tony DeMacio said. "He's got a real projectable body and a lot of life on his fastball. Everything that he throws moves."

Somehow I don't think he qualifies for financial aid at Dallas Baptist given what his FAFSA is going to look like.

I haven't seen a lot of the draft stuff this year. I like the first two picks. Very high upside high school picks is where you make a living. Both of these guys could flame or boom. Either way, I like seeing the top HS kids taken and us going over slot for them. We did it last year with Salazar in the third.

I really like these picks:

1. Braxton Davidson - HS left fielder
2. Garrett Fulencheck - HS right handed pitcher
4. Chad Sobatka - College right handed pitcher
7. Luke Dykstra - HS 2nd baseman
17. Ashton Perritt - College right handed reliever

GETTING THE JUMP ON EVERYBODY ... WE HAVE SIGNINGS

First-round pick Braxton Davidson is now calling himself "outfielder in Atlanta Braves organization" on his Twiiter site.

6th round pick Keith Curcio (Fla. Southern CF) tweeted at 6 p.m. Sunday that he is officially a Brave, and calls himself a "ballplayer in the Atlanta Braves organization".

No. 9 Jordan Edgerton says on Twitter site, "baseball players in the Atlanta Braves organization"

No. 11 Luis Gamez describes himself on Twitter as "RHP for the Atlanta Braves organization"

No. 21 Jake Godfrey says "going to LSU" today on his Twitter site.

No. 24 Kevin Reiher, Prairie State Catcher, calling himself "professional baseball player in Atlanta Braves organization" on Twitter site

7th round pick Luke Dykstra now calls himself "infielder in Atlanta Braves organization" on his Twitter site.

Around 11:20 p.m. Sunday night, this Tweet from No. 3 pick Max Povse (the 6-8 guy)

Signed my contract tonight so now I am officially a member of the Atlanta Braves organization!!!

Thanks Rico. Jake Godfrey was really the first player we took that looked like a tough signing. I'm guessing we'll sign our first 20 picks. And most of the next ten. And probably less than half of the last ten.

I'm guessing that 30-40, except maybe No. 31 Giardina, who is a senior, will be a zero like the last two years. Notable that four of the picks are sons of former big leaguers (including two ex-Braves) and their final pick is the son of their DSL manager.

Also JJ Franco, John's son. Senior at Brown. Taken in the 38th round. We went heavy on sons of ex-Mets in this draft.

Question Rico, can you possibly add the guys that are signed to the original post or am I asking too much?

No. 14 Joseph Daris of Asuza Pacific announced he'd signed with Braves around 4:30 EDT today.
