2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

I would start a package at Albies, Wisler, Mauricio Cabrera and whoever they preferred out of Newcomb and Sims. Tripling that would be insane. That's a ton of close to ML ready talent. Who is going to match that?

It's probably Albies, Inciarte and 2 pitchers.

When Julio was rumored to be dealt, Boston, i wanted Moncada or Benedinti+

Albies is probably worth about $30M-$40M in surplus value, and Inciarte is probably worth about $80M in surplus value.

Sale is likely worth about $80M in surplus value.

It all hinges on how the ChiSox value Inciarte. Do they value defensive contributions enough to see him as a guy that would provide 12-15 wins over the next 4 years at a cost of $20M?

If they value him equally to Sale I make that swap in a heartbeat. Problem is, as soon as the Braves include Albies they have lost 3+ WAR per year at 2B for 6+ years with nobody around to pick up the slack. Those 3 wins at 2B are crucial to the Braves being competitive.

For Sale to make any sense whatsoever for the Braves, the package almost has to center around Folty plus Inciarte, and nothing else of any significance.

The BoSox have several prospects they could dangle that blows that whole package out of the water. So do the Cubs and Dodgers. The Yankees could easily muster a package much better.

Wisler and Cabrera have essentially zero trade value in a blockbuster for a guy like Sale.

I don't for a second see the Red Sox trading Montana or Benintendi. It takes the will to let go of those big prospects and few teams have the will and the ammunition. Maybe some teams can beat us in high end young players but they might blow their load on Archer or Gray.

Wisler has value as a young statrter with potential. I just included him because I don't know where else he fits if we add another starter. Cabrera I think has a lot of value. I don't think he got a full year of service time so he could be a fill a closer role for 6 years. I think he will regress but I think teams will value his 100 MPH fastball.

Looking more at it I think a trade for Gray and Vogt of the A's makes sense. The A's are terrible and Beane is just the GM to take quantity in a trade. Maybe we could get it done without an outright rape of the farm system.

Just to be up front: where we are now, and what he showed last year, I'll be pretty pissed if we trade Inciarte for anything less than Sale, Quintana or Archer -- at that point I'll still be upset but not pissed. Add Sale and someone like Cespedes and we are set.

Of course, this could all just be another Lester 2.0 false-flag debacle.

Nah. Totally different set of circumstances. They talked Sale this past summer. Now with the Nats even checking in, it's more serious. With Lester, they weren't even kicking the tires.

I agree - but you know ... once bitten, twice shy.

if Coppy does trade for Sale, he'd have to sign one of the bats in FA.

Justin Turner would make a ton of sense .

This is my problem with giving up what it takes to get Sale. If you go all in now, you can't start Adonis Garcia at third. You can't go into the season with Flowers as your primary catcher. And I'm not convinced that you can go into the year with Jim Johnson as your closer.

It speeds up the rebuild to a level that we simply aren't in position to be ready for.

Well it's still early in the off season ;)

I'd rather go with Gray honestly. He'll cost less in prospects and I think he would rebound in the NL.

As good as Sale is, the cost may be more than what we would want to see. You're talking maybe four top prospects and that may not do it. I'd rather go after Gray from Oakland or either Archer/Cobb/Odorizzi from Tampa Bay.

I'd want Archer, Quintana, Gray, Sale in that order. Talent wise it'd look different, but as far as aquisition cost and team control that's my preference.

I see all these trade proposals for big name pitchers. Is this just chopcountry speculation or is there actual smoke coming out?
