2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

With Sale, Frazier and Abreu possibly on the market, the White Sox can load up on prospects to get back to where they want really quickly. I know they "won't" trade him unless they get what they deem is correct, but no reason to just waste away with the guy in Chicago. I'm super interested.

Heyman -- sources: Braves r among teams showing strong interest in chris sale. they have the pieces to get it done, too. great farm!

Wow. lol

Of course we have the pieces but I think the team is a year or two out from making these kinds of deals. Hopefully the FO doesn't think our 2nd half offense is what we are going to get in 2017. Still, if they did get Sale that would be an overall upgrade of around 10 WAR on the rotation with the additions of Colon and Dickey.

Wow. If we did get Sale how bad would the package sting? Newcomb and Albies both?

It would hurt, for sure. But that's one of the reasons you load up on prospects, right?

I imagine it would start there. Maybe three central pieces. I'm beyond intrigued by Demeritte, if Albies is the cost. We're one team who could get a deal done. Sale and a catcher, I'd say we're back in business.

If you're the Braves leadership, how does it feel to put Chris Sale on the hill to open Suntrust Park?

Even allowing for some regression on the offensive side, I think those acquisitions (plus a catcher) put us squarely in the hunt. And while you're probably right about being a year or two out, it doesn't necessarily come together with one big master stroke.

Maybe you're right. I was just giving this some more thought, and Archer is signed for two more years, til 2021. Sale to 2019. That's a pretty dramatic difference. So I'm scaling back my expectations on price as well. Tampa probably wants most of the farm. Of course, Archer is great, but Sale is greater.

It's more than TD though. There have been a lot of positive reports on Dylan Moore. Just so many options all over the place on the farm. If you can add sale you have to strongly consider doing it. The team is not far away right now. All it really needs is a bona-fide ace.

Like Gov said, an ace and a legit catcher and we are in business. If we got Sale then we'd have Sale, Teheran, and Folty all locked in for awhile so we'd only have 2 spots to fill out of the farm. As long as Allard is untouchable I'm fine with something like Newcomb, Albies, Touki, and a filler piece.

Sale is awesome, but he'll be 28 on opening day and his velocity was down this year. It's usually pointless to predict how a pitcher will hold up, but he also doesn't strike me as a pitcher that ages well.

Add in the crazy amount of high end prospects we'd have to include, and I'm just not sure this is the kind of deal we need to make right now. In another year or two maybe, but the timing isn't right at this point.

Gosh, what do you think ages well? I think a nasty lefty with that repertoire and command, even allowing for normal reduction in pure 4-seamer speed, is exactly the kind of guy who adapts and ages well.

Right. And you'd have Big Sexy for one and Big Dickey for two to fill the gap. By that time, Fried, Allard - whoever we didn't trade - should be ready to go.

I understand those of you arguing the timing is premature. It's not an unreasonable position. But I'm okay with making a deal now. It does line up with Lil Coppy's aggressive nature. I think he's gonna do it.

I don't think you're particularly close with that package.

I guess it depends on the other offers they recieve. They seem pretty motivated to move him. A deal highlighted by Albies and Newcombe is certainly a good start for any player.

Not that I would make him completely off limits, but if we could get him without giving up Albies then Coppy would be some form of demigod.

The question may be whether we are willing to trade Maitan.

Personally wouldn't give the original proposal of Newcomb, Albies, and Touki up for Sale, and while I've always been one of the first to say that no one is truly "untouchable", my guess is that Freeman may well be traded before Maitan.

Seriously.

You're talking about a kid who's being projected as a Top 10 prospect before he turns 17. He has 4 full years to develop in the minors before he's as "old" as Freeman when he was called up. I would be utterly and completely shocked if the brass would ever seriously consider trading him before he plays for the big club for three or four seasons.

Much like Coppy has said about "Aces" - Maitan is the type of player you don't trade for - he's the one you want to develop because the 3-4 years of cheap production you get from him could very well be franchise-altering if he turns into what you think he is.
