DBacks have apparently non-tendered Wellington Castillo. I'd love to see us make a run at him.
We need to get on him NOW

Does Coppy even check fangraphs?

No, he just hires guys from that site to work in the Braves FO. Several other MLB teams have done the same. Guess they don't know much about baseball at that silly website. We should get our info from the brain trust around these boards instead I suppose.
Those guys that get hired from fangraphs actually know how to develop models and perform calculations as opposed to just sorting columns on another website.

You tried to belittle that site in your previous post and you know it. Stop trying to back away from your ignorant comment.
Think he is a Bref guy if I recall. Also follows this forum to get advice from our resident genius.

Regarding the revenue sharing and competitive balance picks, I found this in a 2014 article:
"Introduced when the current Collective Bargaining Agreement began in December 2011, the Competitive Balance Lottery gives teams that have either one of the 10 smallest markets or 10 smallest revenue pools one of six additional choices after each of the first and second rounds. Additionally, any other clubs that receive revenue-sharing funds are eligible for the supplemental second-round selections."
So it sounds like we will only be eligible for a supplemental second rounder.
He used to be terrible at pitch framing, but the last 2 years he has been average or a bit below average. He is likely a fairly significant upgrade over Recker/Gosewich. He was projected to earn something like $6M through arbitration, so he should be singable for less than that.
If he could be had for something like 1/5 or 2/8 I would be all for signing him.
Baseball Prospectus is considered by many to have the best read on advanced defensive metrics for catchers. Here’s the weighted average WAR over the past 2 years for some of the available FA catchers using their WARP metric:
Wilson Ramos: 3.2
Welington Castillo: 0.9
Matt Wieters: 0.8
Hank Conger: 0.6
Nick Hundley: 0.4
Alex Avila: -0.5
Kurt Suzuki: -0.9
I think Castillo and Conger are the best value targets.
Same stat for our catchers . . .
Tyler Flowers: 2.4
Tuffy Gosewisch: 0
Anthony Rucker: -0.2

This is going to be a tuffy for the FO. I recker they wish they didn't sign one of our backups. I would still go after Wellington and have a heated competition in spring between recker and Tuffy to see who gets to stay in AAA.
At least you spelled one of their names correctly.
