2016-2017 Off-Season Thread

This is going to be a tuffy for the FO. I recker they wish they didn't sign one of our backups. I would still go after Wellington and have a heated competition in spring between recker and Tuffy to see who gets to stay in AAA.

Just trying to be punny. Maybe I should Tyler harder next time

No, he just hires guys from that site to work in the Braves FO. Several other MLB teams have done the same. Guess they don't know much about baseball at that silly website.

We should get our info from the brain trust around these boards instead I suppose. Maybe I will use clv's groundbreaking blog to gain a better understanding of player valuation. How many guys from his site are now employed by MLB teams?

Interesting that you note that - wonder why Garcia is a Brave?

Astros' lineup: Springer, Bregman, Altuve, Correa, Beltran, Reddick, Gattis, McCann, Gurriel. That has potential to be redicilous.

A bit more on the Braves new revenue sharing windfall from Evan Drellich below. MLB has changed the market score formula, and the Braves qualify for full revenue sharing this league year. Drellich's source speculates that the Braves may not qualify in the following league year due to increased revenues from the new stadium. I haven't been able to find any definitive info on how much money the Braves stand to gain here. Looking at past data on local revenues (gate receipts, and more importantly local TV deals), my wild guess is that they would gain between $20m and $40m. That could make the 2018 Braves a prettier girl at the dance. Unclear if it would make said girl more or less fun to dance with.

I don't think this means the Braves qualify for the competitive balance draft lottery, but we'll need to see the new CBA language to know for sure.

According to Drellich, "the formula is based on something called market score, which is essentially the relationship of the market to the average MLB market based on population, income and cable households."

If he is right the calculation should not be affected by any attendance boost from the new stadium.

If that is the case then this could change a lot moving forward.

I have to imagine there are other variables at play but maybe not enough to completely move the Braves out of being a recipient.

My understanding is that the Braves set payroll for each season based on a projection of that season's revenues. I wonder if the new CBA will lead to adjustments to projected revenues for 2017 and to payroll.

Also this would now push the Braves into the category of losing their 3rd highest draft choice if they sign a FA with a QO instead of their 2nd highest choice. Also a significant development.

Does it? If they lose the sharing next year which season sets that QO lose. 17 or 18?

From what I've read those that get revenue sharing lose their 3rd highest pick. Those that don't lose their 2nd highest. Those that pay in lose their 2nd and 5th picks.

I am going to assume the sharing is for the 2017 season so that means any FA the Braves sign next offseason would impact the 2018 draft. So a theoretical Lucroy next year signing would cost the Braves their 3rd highest pick in the 2018 draft.

Lots of things are coalescing for the Braves to have a damn good team in 2018.

Enscheff... signature bet. If we trade for someone we both consider and ace this off season, you have to post that "I can only wish my wife was hotter than zbhargroves" If we don't you give me the terms... just keep it at least a bit PC and not too offensive. I'm really growing to enjoy you.

We will need a list of specific names. I'll start the list with Sale and Archer and Gray. If you lose your signature will be "Baseball Knowledge Index Value: X/10" and I decide what X is. That text can be the only thing in your signature.

So I'm guessing the latest news about how unlikely it is for the Braves to trade for Sale or Archer has taken away your willingness to make the bet you proposed?

Huh? No I just don't spend every waking moment on a message board... how are you considering you are a millionaire investor who is an MMA star??! Where do you fine the time in between your unspeakable success? The deal was if we agree if the required pitcher was an ace... not to hard to have that discussion. Go loft some weights lmao
