Anytime Now Frankie...
Yeah, it's that time. Let's keep track of all the decesions and calculations our HOF worthy manager makes that makes a difference throughout the season.

"See they got this thing they call the shift, thought I'd try it out to see if it works. Basically what it does is it takes a portion of the field away from an opposing hitter. When you have a hitter like him (Ramos) who hits to all parts, you got to use it to try to take part of the field away from him. You take that part away from him, you increase your odds of getting him out unless he hits it to another area, and if they do that, you tip your cap and try to go get em tomorrow."

"AJ's a catcher, he catches pitches, not throws. Our shortstop needs to make a better throw, a throw like a pitch, at the glove, so AJ can catch it. AJ's our guy, are you kidding me, it's 2 games, did you not see what the guy did last year? He can really hit it, and can really pick it."

"Closers are mean't to pitch the 9th. They always say the last 3 are the hardest, so that's why. When your season is on the line, you have to save him for the 9th. In a meaningless April game, maybe not. Use him in the 7th, 8th...and put someone else out there in the 9th and see what they got. We knew that if Grilli couldn't do it, that he was capable of going multiple innings if it went to extras. I mean how awesome is that, a closer that goes multiple innings...coming off Tommy John nonetheless."

"We put Frenchy up there, will do it a lot, to leadoff an inning. We expect a walk, to get a run because his past says he won't walk, therefore pitchers aren't going to throw him any strikes, and if he just stands there it's an automatic free pass to first."

"I've never been so scared of running a starting pitcher out there in a game, then I was last year with JT. I just figure, what the hell, might as well run him out there opening day against the other team's best, not like we going to win anyway. Hopefully he gets some innings in there and then we can get the bullpen some work to start off the season and get them in shape to perform."

This one he actually said in spring training
"You know I learned last year that you can mix up your bullpen guys depending on the situation"

"On off days, I have the pitchers come to the ballpark and have them sit in the bullpen for a couple of hours, then get them warmed up, almost like simulating a real life game, and have them pitch on the mound. I was always told that the more pitchers throw, the better they will be, it strengthens the arm, stretches them out, and while they may only be able to get a hitter out now or pitch an inning here and there, after a while they could go an entire game without feeling sore. Plus they become more effective. Rest is not needed. They don't get sore, you know what I mean. I remember the first time I rode Harley, man afterward by butt was sore, but then TP told me, you gotta go out there and ride and ride and ride, and now I could ride that damn thing all the way to San Diego to play the Padres and I wouldn't feel a thing."

"You know what they say, they said you got to try it, sometimes the closer shouldn't pitch the 9th, other times he should. He should only pitch the 9th with a lead, or in a tied game on the road, no? I thought, why not, there are exceptions, you don't always have to use him like that. We tried that the first game of the year, it didn't work, tip your cap and move on so I thought I'd try it again, you know, to provide a spark, put him in the 9th in a game where we're down 10, to try to get a rally going. Once again it didn't work, but what the hell, when should I try it again?"

Here's to hoping we suck so bad, we fire Fredi by the break, and have Eddie Perez become the interim manager. That would give him a well deserved chance to show what he can do at the major league level.

"All I hear is this talk about real estate, and how it is going to effect us with this and that and the Braves and so forth. I don't know what it means, they spent a lot of money to develop that (stadium) but I'd sooner have cash. Cash buys players, land buys nothing except you have a piece of dirt, or a chunk of concrete."

On the pressure mounting of trying to win a game and possibly keep his job:

"Pressure, there's no such thing as pressure. They got my back. I can't play, those guys play, and they aren't doing what we want them to do. That's not on me. A call here, a throw there, those type of things you know and things could be different. Right now it's not happening. They say it's a game of inches. But pressure, no such thing. Only time I ever felt pressure is when Frank told me we had to win or else, well, a few days later Frank was no longer here."

" I know the team is 25-60 since July 7th of last year. but if you think about it, that is close to 1 out of 3. If a hitter gets 1 hit out of 3 at bats, he's an all star."

"When your rolling, on a winning streak, you want your pitchers to go as deep as possible, to give the relievers a rest here and there. If that doesn't happen, you gotta use a starter, maybe for an inning here or there and then have him go out there and pitch on regular rest. You build stamina, arm strength, that way I've been told."

"You don't have to use your best reliever in the 9th, you can use him anytime, everyday, it makes perfect sense to me, we're gonna try it a time or too."

"When you can't hit, you can bunt yourself to home, depending on how many outs there are. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, just gotta tip your cap to the other team for catching the ball like they should."

"When you need to win, in an elimination game, you need to keep your bullpen fresh, get them some work everyday, because the game tomorrow doesn't mean anything except what happens today. It's all hands on deck today and tomorrow. If they're not fresh you can't pitch tomorrow or in the future, and if you don't win, you can't play tomorrow."

"We'd be a lot better with a healthy Olivera. He was really swinging it and hitting it hard before they wouldn't allow him in the stadium. They say he needs treatment, I'm not sure what for, but I hope he's well and will be back soon, we need his defense more than anything."

"It's all about matchups. Sometimes matchups work, sometimes they don't. You gotta know what you're doing though, because if you don't you will fail more often than not. So far things just aren't working out, going our way, but that will change. Eric (O'Flaherty) was great for us, I think he just needs some more work to get the kinks out, you know, a few years ago he was one of the best, going out there everyday getting lefties out. That changeup was deadly to lefties."

"When you start a young pitcher like him, Folty, that struggles with confidence and pitch calling, you start your best offensive catcher you know, because we're gonna have to score some runs to be in the game. I mean, you guys really think the game is going to come down to defense....defense, really or pitch framing. That's ridiculous."

"Ogando likes to pitch. He wants to pitch everyday. I mean from my perspective he helps us, others don't want to face him I mean look at him, who he is. He rams them up the ass and they need medical help."

when you over throw a four seam fastball it flattens out-loses motion and becomes very hittable.

AJ has no control over Folt... anxiety level.

My guess is the kid was pretty amped up, once he calmed he threw well

Same catcher

oh yeah, Ogando hasn't thrown since Friday.
