2016 Payroll

Maybin has been hurt. He has talent, his prospect ratings speak to that.

I think Maybin is a piece in a deal, especially if we would pay some of his way.

But I agree that I don't think he's the long term answer and that he's not good enough of a hitter to play a corner.

Maybin is always hurt. He has talent but it only shines through here and there.

He might be tradeable in the sense we could give him away to a team but he has pretty much no value imo. He's a poor hitter and I suspect his line this season will be really close to his career WRC+ mark.

A lot of people assumed he would be DFAed or shipped off for next to nothing when the season ended anyways. Somehow that perception changed when he started off well. I feel Mallex is being groomed for center and unless he bombs from here through ST that it's his spot to lose. Maybin has no room and has simply been a place holder.

Should have sold high on Maybin like several folks around here were suggesting.

I agree. Maybe the Braves tried to do that but nobody was biting on that SSS success. Who knows.

There were clearly teams interested when he'd been hot almost two months and a few needed OF help. But even then the offers may not have been anything more than a decent prospect. While now even getting that could be a long-shot unless Maybin gets hot again. Maybin had a good game last night at the plate so hopefully that's a start of a strong finish to this month.

The only rumor I heard about was for Pagan. Most of us on here were not in favor of that at the time

I wasn't talking about specific offers, just that there was a list of teams who reportedly showed interest. However, I never bought into the Pagan rumor and it turned out to be false anyway. Here's a quote from MLBTR for example on July 27th: "Though the Braves have fielded plenty of interest in the revived Cameron Maybin, and have considered moving him, the team now feels it “would need to be blown away with an offer” to make a deal, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reports. Contrary to an earlier report, Bowman adds, an Atlanta source vehemently denied the suggestion that Maybin had been dangled in an earlier effort to add Angel Pagan of the Giants. Maybin, 28, has been one of the game’s best turnaround stories, with his play dramatically altering perceptions of both his contract and the deal that brought him to Atlanta (which was already widely viewed as a Braves win)."
