Quit buying stuff from there. Almost everything is from China. Why don't you ask the chimp/ape in charge to levy taxes on imports from China and stop it.

I avoid the place like a plague, only when I need something that no other mom and pop shop have to go there....well and Morton Salt, which is like a dollar to two cheaper than anywhere else.

Woodmans/Target for the win.

I haven't heard from 57 and the crowd about Walmart's decision to raise all employee pay.

Stock got hammered Wednesday... I bought a few hundred shares on the decline.

Hopefully that will help me grow my capital over the next few years.

Let's see who buys the lion's share of the stocks that get dumped because of this recent"downturn", we all know WM stock will go back up, right? If it's a smattering of people from all over the place economically then it's legit, ie "one of those things" but if the Waltons quietly buy most of it while it's down and it then goes back up will that be AS legit and economic "turn of events"?

Not sure it matters much to me... Nobody forces anyone to sell the stock.

Frankly, I'm surprised the news was taken so negatively. Their investing in their employees, their stores, and their e-commerce business... it will yield future growth if you have a 5-10 year time horizon. I'd recommend buying on the weakness

Well they had to pay for those raises somehow, right? Plus what do you do for fun when you have so much and there aren't really any more worlds to conquer? You do something like laying off people to "trim the fat" so to speak, then you make it known for those who didn't get laid off that you expect them to do both their own work and the work of those who did get laid off, thereby limiting the need for as many new employees in the future. Then you tighten your belt in the short term (I doubt it'll take 5-10 years) and when your stock is at its lowest in a pretty good while, you quietly and subtly buy as much of it back at a discount as possible, then in 2-3 years (IMO) the stock prices are back up and you own even more of it than you used to and your fortune is bigger and your employees are trained to do twice the work they used to do.

Not that it matters from my end either, but just in case you want to know where my motives and interests REALLY come from, if everyone was playing with an equal hand your statement of "Nobody forces anyone to sell the stock. " would also be fine with me. But you see there aren't any equal hands. Those who have almost everything now use their numerical advantage to get rid of the competition and increase their percentage of the pie by doing things 80% of Americans couldn't do financially if they somehow all put their money together. That's where the saying "born on third and thought they hit a triple" came from. And yeah I know you don't care, it would seriously eff with your head and your life's ambitions to see things like I see them so you prefer the warm fuzzy of idealism. Go ahead, knock yourself out. I used to be that way, or at least kinda sorta that way. I saw the light finally, I hope you don't have to go through what I did to get to the same point.

no thanks

i will spend my money on local businesses and invest in the community around me instead of investing in that anti-american business

but you and others care more about money than country and community imo

I agree to most of what you said. I am anti-Wally World like know other. I go to them if it is an emergency and they are the only ones who have it and salt for my water filter.

Sturg cares about money, but smart un regulated money, ie No Fed. Yes they are just as corrupt as Wall Street...I believe they work together to be honest. The Fed controls us, Wall Street controls our savings.

I hate Wall Street and their devices, but when you want to save money, you can't trust banks and putting money in a pillow and burying it under your house until you retired played out in the 1950's and you won't have anything to live on. We are in both of those hands and I hate it with a passion.

Sturg is not anti-community, he is more for it than a lot others including you. He and I agree on FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Yes you can say well you are black and you can be discriminated against, so what. It happens today at certain restaurants, certain establishments but I am not going to run to the media and cry and bitch about it. That is the business choice and I applaud them for making that decision. They just don't get my business while the one next door does.

Also a few of you thinking that is cool to kill babies and get mad at people who say it is wrong. What is the major malfunction in your brain, you want to deride Republicans and Christians who are against it but yet not tell your own who don't want kids to either, don't open your damn legs, take birth control, get your snatch sewn up or guys snipped. Where is the responsibility in that, wait I know, liberals don't think like that. We have an oops, just get rid of it when they can prevent it. Liberals don't think because government will TAKE CARE OF THEM. Don't work, don't want to work, government will pay for, get pregnant when I am stupid, government will take care of it. I don't want to pay for school, government take care of it. I don't have a roof over my head but I really don't want to work, government will take care of it.

Sickening.

I really have no idea what you're talking about. They're not doing massive layoffs... they're investing into their people and their stores... Isn't that what everyone wanted?

Interesting theory.

Walmart employs 1.4M Americans (2.1M people worldwide). That's 1% of American jobs coming from Walmart.

what a weird rant

and you somehow brought abortion into a discussion on the stock market and big business. congrats

wealth for wealths sake ?

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/17/b...-tax-increase-for-the-rich.html?smid=tw-share

But what could a tax-the-rich plan actually achieve? As it turns out, quite a lot, experts say. Given the gains that have flowed to those at the tip of the income pyramid in recent decades, several economists have been making the case that the government could raise large amounts of revenue exclusively from this small group, while still allowing them to take home a majority of their income.

Not sure what your point is...

I'm curious what would happen to those 1.4M people if the government shut WMT down tomorrow

Guessing, first a depression, because that's a lot of people not collecting money, second a renaissance where people use skills to get other jobs and get more money.

Of course Walmart isn't the only one involved in this sham. THey're just the biggest culprit.

Sorry Zeet, ain't going to happen.

First the $15 pay and banks is not going to lend money to small business to employ those people.

Taking from the rich and giving to the poor will kill this country. You need to WORK with them, get them to not try to be the next Jones mentality.

Unions have killed several states and in some cases suing the state because they can't pay the pensions. Union dues are due and they want to collect. They have to raise taxes or kill programs, which jobs will be lost in both cases.

who is saying the gov't should shut down that awful company?

and why do you think there isn't someone willing to step in and fill that void if it did happen?

^

Curious as to why it's a "dumb stat"... isn't it just a fact?

that isn't a state or theory

that is an opinion

the "theory" in that post that you quoted would have been about supporting small businesses but that isn't a theory since we know supporting those helps the local community more than when you buy from a big box store so that companies owners can get a 3rd vacation house

you "fact" is funny cause you quoted world wide stats when i was talking about local communities and business

and you overlooked the damage that walmart does to those overall for the sake of "cheap goods" made in china.

thus why i come to the conclusion that you and other care more about money than country and community

i find it funny for people that hate welfare and gov't help sticking up for walmart though. it's good stuff that reinforces what i was saying as well

keep up please
