2016 Presidential Primaries [ SUPER TUESDAY | 3-1-'16]

I see that Bernie Sanders wants to implement a tax on stock trading ($0.50 for every $100 trade). The tax revenue will be used to fund college tuition. I'm glad my 401k that invests in a mutual fund is going to take a hit.

Sanders is a well-meaning individual, and that's rare for politicians. But, man, he doesn't seem to have a handle on the unintended consequences with all of his initiatives.

The policy or the method of payment ?

Let's scratch the surface
1/2 of 1% tax ? Buying $5,000
of stock would be taxed $25

Is that your gripe, $25?
Consider the return on that $25

I would guess there is a floor and ceiling
Do you know?

In one way, Trump’s campaign pitch is a little like Hillary Clinton’s. She’s less about a new vision than about the ability to take care of the government, wring some long-awaited changes out of Congress and handle foreign affairs. His is about getting things done through the miracle of genius negotiating. (“We’ve got to get things done folks, O.K.? Believe me, don’t worry. We’re going to make such great deals.”)

Really, they’re very similar in that sense. Except that she’s been a senator and secretary of state, and he’s got his name on a ton of golf courses.

We live in strange times, people. Strange times.

A mutual fund like Vanguard makes thousands of high volume stock trades. I promise you they aren't just going to eat the costs of that. Those type of transactions always end up being transferred to the consumers.

Yeap. I get free stock trades through Merrill Edge. Guess those won't be free anymore.

or get negotiated away.
that would be the floor I asked about

I don't "negotiate" with Vanguard. I choose them, but since every stock broker is faced with the same tax, then the market will shift. Likely meaning the consumer (me) absorbing the extra tax.

All for what? "Free" college tuition? I thought he wanted to tax the rich. I'm not rich.

you misunderstood me. Sanders is a pragmatic deal maker. The negotiation I meant was when in fact actual legislation gets to the table.

Seeing how traditional high school degrees don't hold the weight they once did. I think expanding education is a worthy debate. I also think your concerns deserve consideration.

I love everyone when talking about Bernie and his thoughts are trying to put him in the model of how things are done today

the point of his campaign is a political revolution. it means doing it a different way since we are somewhat confused what that means it seems

change done wrong isn't a revolution worth supporting

i think the way Europe lives is far from wrong

but so be it

the status quo isn't good enough for the country and its citizens

edit: i also wouldn't say your statement in itself is wrong though. my statement was more that people keep saying "this model won't work in this model we have". i say no **** to that, that's the point, we have to scrap this model.

Hillary at least made it to Spring 08 - man did I miss the boat on the threat of a Bush 2016 candidacy. Never saw him imploding like this

His campaign manager should be banned from Washington. How he has as much money and party support as he does, but isn't in the top 3 in polls is baffling. How is he not beating bat**** insane Ben Carson? I get the Trump populist angle, and not being able to hang with Cruz and the tea party, but hwo isn't he beating Rubio? Someone struggling for tea party support and isn't a true moderate candidate? How is he closer to Mike Huckabee than the top 3?

FWIW, I think Trump winning means a virtual lock for democrats winning the office. Cause someone like Cruz or Carson or maybe even Jeb/Rubio will run as a third party to get the votes they're losing. And if Trump runs as 3rd party, same thing. Trump could very well hand 2016 to the democrats.

Not his campaign manager's fault that whenever Jeb opens his mouth and starts talking that it makes you want to sleep. Just doesn't have the charisma his brother does. He might be smarter than George but lacks the connection and charisma.
