2016 Steamer Projections--Braves Hitters

It's predicting Markakis puts up the worst BA of his career, and the second worst OBP and SLG of his career. I find that extremely unlikely.

I expect a .290/.350/.400 line from him, maybe a little more OBP and a little less SLG. And I would be shocked if he didn't hit 10-15 HRs.

I just don't understand projecting a guy to put up numbers he hasn't done in 3 years.

That amounts to a ~105 loss team I would assume? How can a team literally be in the running for the worst player at almost every single position? Seriously, shouldn't each team somehow luck into having a few decent players? Of at least a few a average players?

It takes a concerted effort to trade away your best major league players for guys who for the most part are not ML ready. Ought we be surprised: Heyward, Justin Upon, Gattis, Wood, Simmons, Kimbrel.

And we bring in a Markakis, who the FO is still congratulating itself on as a shrewd acquisition and an Olivera, who maybe will work out but right now is a giant question mark, and the nonsense from Coppolella about how going from Simmons to Aybar should not cost the team wins in 2015. And we plug in below average players elsewhere. If the plan is to be bad for a while, we're right on target. The part I wonder about is how much longer the FO is going to talk about this solemn pledge they took not to allow anything like last season to repeat itself.

Barring some major moves the team in 2016 will be just as bad as the 2015 version. Atleast we have Freeman

These projection systems are crap. All they do is take an average of the last 3 years or so, adjust for BABIP or FIP, and upgrade/downgrade slightly based on age. These systems never predict breakouts and rarely predict played falling off a cliff like BJ did. The only one with any credibility in the slighest is whatever Basebal Prospectus uses. It does the same **** but it does more to predict a breakout or significant decline.

So who do you see as breaking out for the Braves in 2016.

Depends on your definition of breakout. I think Freeman is due for a career year. Wouldnt be surprised if Newcomb reaches the majors around the all star break and has a big half a season in the majors. I think Teheran will rebound and Miller will tank. Shelby has been up and down his whole career, you never know who your going to get each half of the season. Worst part is its usually the end of the season he tanks so if you make it to the playoffs he is a liability. I also think Albies will be our SS to start 2017.

Bethancourt would be my pick for an upside surprise. I think the true Bethancourt is somewhere between his major league stats and his AAA stats last year. Maybe mid-way. Maybin is another one who I think will do better than the projection systems are predicting. I'm also bullish on Wisler.

My picks for downside surprises would be Vizcaino and Grilli.
