Jonathan Lucroy - C - Brewers

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that trade talks involving Jonathan Lucroy are "intensifying."

Crasnick writes that "[m]omentum [is] building toward a trade by the deadline." He counts the Rangers, Indians, Astros, Mets and Red Sox as interested parties, but also notes that there is a "mystery team" in the mix. Worldwide Leader colleague Buster Olney reported on July 20 that the Indians were in talks with the Brewers regarding a potential Lucroy trade, but nothing came of it at the time. Stay tuned.

Be glad when Lucroy finds a new home. So, that there's no more board speculation about him eventually becoming a Brave or posts of hypothetical lineups featuring him.

This board is famous for folks holding out hopes of acquiring a player that makes no sense and is completely unrealistic. Lucroy has just taken the place David Price held this offseason: a player the Braves have 0% probability of acquiring, yet folks around here insist on cooking up scenarios where he could be a Brave.

He joins a list that includes Greinke, Lester and Matt Holliday.

Heyward?

Maybe the Braves are involved as part of a three way...

I know those are way more complicated but not unprecedented.

And, No, I don't mean with Lucroy coming to Atlanta.

Fwiw, mlb trade rumors writer thought we might be the mystery team with an extension in mind

I just can't imagine why we'd do this. Especially now when his value is at his highest. Even if he's traded to a different team, you can always deal with the new team in the offseason if you really want him.

It would make sense from the FO perspective. They are gonna be buyers this offseason and catcher is one of our biggest holes. Their aren't very many young controllable catchers out there so a veteran like Lucroy would be perfect to handle the young staff while batting in the middle of the order.

No sorry... The experts have spoken. Would be awful for the team

OTOH, I guess the amateur GMs that think he's a good addition should be listened to?

Lucroy would be a great addition, as always, depends on the cost to get him.

If we're looking at startera with control, I'd take a look at Shields. The money left that the ChiSox are paying is equivalent to what we're paying Markakis. I'd do a swap of Markakis for Shields.

Other than that, we don't have much left to move that's worth a considerable amount (assuming JT and Freeman are off limits).
