2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

There is pretty overwelming evidence that he won't hold up well because all most no players hold up well after 30. He would be a fine addition in theory, except that people fall in love with guys that are 30 and then forget that they loved them when the player is 32. Why would a payroll limited rebuilding team that that risk?

I'm with you. It's doubly true for catchers. I wouldn't try to add a piece like Lucroy until we're reading to make a World Series run. By the time this team is ready for that there's a good chance Lucroy is a backup catcher.

Seeing the Mets trying to find more depth for their rotation makes me grin...... you think they might regret the KJ for Whalen/Gant deal?

There is no way they would be throwing those guys out in the playoff chase unless they had too. It was a very reasonable trade for both sides.

They are looking for a back-end of the rotation type starter to keep them in games -- Whalen and Gant would definitely fill that role for them this year.

They are decent prospects, but the Mets wouldn't be trusting them to start games in the pennant race was my point. They would be looking to move those guys for veteran arms. Last year they got KJ/Uribe, that helped them get to the world series.

This board is famous for folks holding out hopes of acquiring a player that makes no sense and is completely unrealistic. Lucroy has just taken the place David Price held this offseason: a player the Braves have 0% probability of acquiring, yet folks around here insist on cooking up scenarios where he could be a Brave.

He joins a list that includes Greinke, Lester and Matt Holliday.

Tim Hudson? Justin Upton? Jason Heyward (draft version), Billy Wagner? Nick Markakis, BJ Upton, etc. We are going to aquire some good players either in trade or free agency before 2017. Maybe it won't be who people are speculating on but there will be moves made to improve the team.

He's having a down year but I would be interested in trading for Derreck Norris. Buy low decent upside. Obviously I wouldn't want to overpay, but rather check in on him than be forced in FA.

I like how he included Nick Markakis.

Theres always a little speculation about any good player linked to Georgia. Any speculation was shot down on this board as not going to happen because it made no sense for a rebuilding team to sign a mediocre aging veteran. I dont disagree with that sentiment but its still an example of a big move we didnt expect.

The Neck wasn't a big move though. He was an injured outfield desperate for a team.

I also like how he missed the ENTIRE point of my post by listing a couple guys who had multiple years of team control remaining when they were acquired, a closer on a short term deal, a draft pick, and the biggest bust signing in franchise history.

But like I said, some folks will continue to hold out hope that the Braves are in play for a guy like Lucroy. They justify it by equating his situation with the situations cajun just listed as "proof". Those scenarios couldn't be any more different from Lucroy and current incarnation of the Braves, yet in their heads they are the same.

It's very odd. It's almost like they can't apply logic to fill in gaps.

Your condescension is on another level. I wish us dummies could all be like you!

So you think the Tim Hudson and Justin Upton trades are the same situation as trading for Lucroy at this trade deadline?

You think drafting Heyward is in any way the same as trading for Lucroy right now?

You think a contender signing a closer to a short term deal is the same as the worst team in baseball trading for 14 months of a catcher?

Is the BJ Upton contract in any way similar to the idea of trading for Lucroy right now?

The Braves are not in contention for anything except the worst record in MLB. Lucroy is going to cost a boatload of prospects to acquire, partly because of a premium placed on players at the deadline. Why in the world would the Braves pay that premium to acquire him now? It is absolutely mind boggling that folks can't grasp these facts and then piece them together to come to logical conclusions. There isn't a single unbiased source that thinks Lucroy is a good idea for the Braves, and even the talking piece for the Braves says it isn't happening.

So why do folks continue to scheme about it like it is a realistic scenario? And then the predictable crying when someone calls an idea stupid.

Maybe our idea of unrealistic is different. I think every board is going to have some hopes of acquiring good players. We arent the biggest market but we arent exactly the Rays. There is always a big bump in payroll with the opening on a new stadium. Even the Marlins spend money the year they open a new stadium. Lucroy isnt going to get 120+ million in free agency like the others you mentioned. I would see it a lot like the Uggla trade.
