2016 Trade Deadline Rumors and Moves

How is that being dicks to him? They were honest with him and upfront. And he wanted them to rip up the option so he could become FA which would have been dumb for Cle

Telling the current best catcher in the game he'll be the backup to Yan freaking Gomes in 2017 is a dick thing to do.

I love the idea of adding Lucroy, but in reality, adding a 30 year old C with one year remaining on his contract while dealing away multiple top 20 prospects is not a wise play. If we were in the hunt the next 2 years like CLE, I'm all in. But with no extension, I can't see the reasoning in making that move.

It's also probably the single dumbest lineup decision in the history of the game.

They were going to save his knees and play him at catcher, first, and DH. He would have been in the lineup everyday as opposed to 75% of the time. Teams buying him in 18 would probably like that he has less wear and tear. And more importantly, they have a chance to win title with him on team.

Now brewers and Indians fans both hate him, lol.

Hart was just on XM and didn't do a very good job of hiding the fact that we may be close on Mac.

Albies, Swanson, Freeman, Kemp, Mac/Flowers, Turner or Markakis, Markakis or Turner, SP, Mallex/Inciarte could make for a pretty interesting 2017 lineup.

I wouldn't say they were being dicks to him, but I think you'd have a hard time arguing that not catching everyday would actually help his future contract negotiations. He wants to be paid as elite catcher, not a good DH or a decent 1b.

It does indeed. Would also give us flexibility to trade for a starter like Moore or Archer in the offseason perhaps, if that's the direction they decide to go.

I really can't see us giving up our 2nd round pick for Turner. While that lineup is better than this years, it would only be interesting if this was 2012.

Why do people think teams are dumb? Do you really think a team would think he couldn't catch because he spent a year rotating between 1B, C, and DH?

I'll wait until the CBA is re-negotiated before deciding we'd be giving up anything. The players have been TOTALLY shafted with the current QO situation - it's going to look entirely different before they sign off on the next deal.

Quite possible for sure. If that changes he would definitely be a great fit.

Reports are suggesting the real reason Lucroy declined is they wouldnt make him a FA after this year. So he asks to be traded and says hes not a big city guy. Gets traded to cleveland with the possibility of winning and declines.

I guess that's why every catcher is doing that then....

It creates a idea that he can't handle the job anymore, because he was moved off the position. And you better believe teams will use that as a negotiation tool in contract talks.

what did he say?

Bowden asked him about Mac directly. He just chuckled and said "I think everybody knows we're looking to upgrade behind the plate. Of course, we're not mortgaging important pieces of our future for that - there are several really good potential options that could be available to us this winter as free-agents."
