2017 #1 Pick watch!

How can the Angels be that bad with how amazing Trout is?

well, they have a lot of mediocrity, Trout and Calhoun on offense, and the 28th ranked pitching staff in MLB! their entire starting 5 is mostly hurt and aside from Shoemaker (who I think was sent down for a bit) they aren't doing much. Heck, their offense is at 10.4 WAR and Trout + Calhoun are 6.9 of that

Sadly, that would have been us had we not traded the Uptons, Kimbrel, Heyward, etc.

Got to suck to be awful AND have no future in sight.

That's why I think they should consider trading Calhoun, Simmons and, GULP, Trout. It would sadden the fanbase and all that, but IMO, it's the only way they can quickly rebuild their farm system at the upper levels and not be stuck in mediocrity for years. I know there's pretty much no way they could trade Trout, but they really only have about 3-4 trade chips aside from him: Calhoun, Shoemaker, Richards,Santiago and Simba. (and the pitchers are either hurt or been uneven) Pujols is untradeable unless you eat so much $$$ it becomes pointless, CJ Wilson , Weaver and Lincecum don't have much if any trade value either....

IMO, if they keep Trout and move only a couple of guys for prospects, they could be looking at YEARS of .500ish baseball.

Farm system is terrible with many trades.

Pitching stinks.

They should probably trade Trout, i have no freaking idea what exactly they could trade him for but only way they can get good again.

Not many teams have the system to trade for him though.

They should blow it up, farm system stinks, but what teams could offer a respectful trade for Trout?

We could, but it would have to be creative as hell. I'm thinking it would require Freeman going and Pujols coming honestly as well as Newcomb, Albies, Allard and 2 more parts.

and when I look at that it doesn't seem like enough. (though with the salary differences and swap of Freeman and Pujols it probably is)

Seriously, Trout alone, even with the $30m AAV for the latter part of his contract, would require a team like the Dodgers to cough up Urias, Pederson and Puig.

edited to add: I'm not saying the Braves SHOULD make that trade, just guessing on what it would require.

I have always held firm that if there is a trade that involves Trout, it would not be a 2 team trade. There would have to be a 3rd or 4th team. Lot's of prospects and money would be involved so it truly would be a blockbuster trade. Or would it be a Netflix trade?

more like an X-box trade with "force trade" turned on. I don't know if anyone of his ability has ever been traded that early in their career. Not since Babe Ruth and certainly not in the modern era.

I don't really see how the Angels could get anything approaching Trout's value back.

Could the Braves even handle, financially, a player as good as Trout. Even in arbitration he will be expensive and how could the Braves manage his next contract?

this might just be something that Atlanta cannot really entertain until the TV contract expires.

he signed an extension with the Angels through the 2020 seasons as follows:

2016- $15.250

2017- $19.250

2018- $33.250

2019- $33.250

2020- $33.250

lots of $$$ but they could make it work

It would definitely take a 3 team deal. Like if we traded JT to Boston and they sent Moncada to LAA and we sent Albies, Newcomb, and Allard that would be a haul. And it would still take a couple more pieces. Not worth it for 1 player imo. We would be turning ourselves into the Angels now.

A player as good as Trout, being traded in his prime would take some haul.

He'd signed for 4.5 more years but LA is in a bad spot. System is bad, pitching stinks, overall team not good, trading Trout only way to eventually get back. But like i said, im not sure whats a fair trade for him.

I'd consider it, he's signed for a long haul but i'm not sure LA deals him.

Even though they SHOULD.

Whether a team could honestly meet the asking price, i dont know.

We are talking a guy that even with his contract could provide $200m+ of excess value. That is insane! There is nothing comparable in history except for the Babe trade (and that was such a different era it really doesn't apply)

You'd have to give up your first 4-5 prospects and they'd all have to be top 150's and you'd still need to throw in a Freddie Freeman to make it "even".

Realistically, it would take a team's top 3 and their top controlled major league player. Like say the Astros for example. They'd have to give Bregman, Reed,Martes and probably George Springer. (if not Musgrove their #5 prospect as well) would that be worth it? IDK..... that's the biggest trade I have ever seen.

I'd actually probably do that trade pretty easily if I were the Astros. Trout is pretty much impossible to get a fair trade for at this juncture (from the Angels side).

If i were the Astros I think I add another top ranked guy or two and ask them to add Calhoun. They'd be pretty damn set then.

edited to add: Trout would be the perfect guy to trade draft picks for too. If they change the rules as some have speculated at the new CBA it could get interesting.

It would be more like Seager, Urias, de Leon, Pederson, and Puig. Seriously, and the Angels may still balk at that. You basically can't get fair value for Trout in a trade.

I would say Cubs but most of their top prospects are hitters not pitchers and LA needs pitching more.

But really need everything.

Schwarber, Almora, Carl Edwards, Russell probably goes nowhere.

It's a difficult situation for the Angels.

They probably have to trade Trout if they ever wanna get good again but i have no idea what a fair trade is.

me either (and i doubt anyone else does) which i why I suggested the Angels force Pujols on the trade partner, this is a way to get rid of a bad contract and yet not hurt Trout's trade value because nobody can pay the actual trade value.
