except its 1 year with machado
What does Machado's next contract figure to look like?
Braves have maybe 40 million to play with this year, plus 39 million tied up in Markakis/Kemp.

If they got 2 OF'ers from the Cardinals they could keep JT Realmuto and Justin Bour for one more season to put a young passable team on the field. My pitch to them would be that Riley and Ajax should be ready next year to take over at 1B and C and we have Fried and Sims ready to pitch in the big leagues this year.
The odd thing is all the comflicting quotes.
Paring payroll isn’t what a team with $40M available does.
Being in on Yelich isn’t something a team does while being conservative.
I honestly have no idea what the Braves could be up to. Anything from a complete reload and $130M payroll all the way to an opening day payroll of $90M are real possibilities based on what we’ve heard so far.
I think the issue for the Marlins are the Volquez and Chen contracts. They take up such a big part of payroll that it makes sense for them to move anyone there is a decent market for exchange for future assets. Royals are in a similar situation with respect to the Gordon and Kennedy contracts.

They could probably bribe the Padres to take one off their hands.
But it would be a pretty bad blow to lose your good players, your young players, and prospects just to end up at square 1.
Not sure what it would cost to land him.
I think Wright, Acuna, Albies are off limits.
Would you part with Soroka?
Soroka, Anderson, Pache, and say, Touki or would it cost someone like Wentz also?
Would certainly leave a dent in the Braves farm but he'd be well worth it, given his team-friendly deal.
Is it me or does it feel like a deal for Yelich could actually happen?

Allard, Anderson, Pache and Wentz is nowhere near enough to get Yelich. It’s ridiculous when folks bundle some guys they don’t mind losing and think that package will get an insanely valuable player in return.
Yelich has upwards of $120M in surplus value. Those 4 guys are a bit over half that.
Approximate value of the Braves prospects not named Albies or Acuna:
Wright $35M
Gohara $35M
Allard $25M
Soroka $25M
Anderson $20M
Fried $20M
Pache $20M
Riley $15M
Wentz $15M
Add them up however you want, but a Yelich trade starts with Wright or Gohara, and then includes another 3-4 guys off that list. Then add a couple filler pieces outside the Braves Top 10. That trade would basically force the Braves window closed within 5-6 years.
The Braves best chance at acquiring Yelich almost certainly involves taking bad contracts to bring that surplus value down a bit (or a lot).
