I was thinking if we took back say Prado and maybe Tazawa.
Allard, Anderson, Pache and Wentz is nowhere near enough to get Yelich. It’s ridiculous when folks bundle some guys they don’t mind losing and think that package will get an insanely valuable player in return.
Yelich has upwards of $120M in surplus value. Those 4 guys are a bit over half that.
Approximate value of the Braves prospects not named Albies or Acuna:
Wright $35M
Gohara $35M
Allard $25M
Soroka $25M
Anderson $20M
Fried $20M
Pache $20M
Riley $15M
Wentz $15M
Add them up however you want, but a Yelich trade starts with Wright or Gohara, and then includes another 3-4 guys off that list. Then add a couple filler pieces outside the Braves Top 10. That trade would basically force the Braves window closed within 5-6 years. In fact, they may not even be interested if Acuna isn’t in the deal.
The Braves best chance at acquiring Yelich almost certainly involves taking bad contracts to bring that surplus value down a bit (or a lot).
That's a Harry special for sure, but AA has done trades like that before.
That trade "fills" LF, 3B, BP and SP in one fell swoop, though the quality of those additions are pretty bad.
Tazawa goes away after 2018, at which point Chen bumps up to $20M from $10M this year. Prado goes away after 2019. Chen goes away after 2020, right when guys like Swanson and Albies start getting expensive.
The jewel is obviously Yelich, who is extremely valuable. If AA wants a good defensive OF, he can't do much better than Yelich/Inciarte/Acuna.
It would be selling high on Riley, in my opinion. Maybe the Marlins are dumb enough to still dream on Newk.
I wouldn't include guys like Wright/Soroka/Allard in that deal though. Well, maybe Allard, but I'm the low man on him around here.
Crasnick: The #Braves are in the market for a third baseman, but they're only looking for a one-year bridge to prospect Austin Riley, who slashed .315/.389/.511 in 48 games with Double-A Mississippi at age 20. They think he'll be ready to go in 2019.
Addison Reed to Phillies for three years
So what are the potential 1 year guys at 3b? Headley and ???
Addison Reed to Phillies for three years
Maybe Nunez to pair with Camargo or maybe Cozart to play some short and third. Maybe even Prado if the Marlins pay enough on his deal to make it happen or if he's included in a larger trade.
So what are the potential 1 year guys at 3b? Headley and ???
Beltre, Dozier, Donaldson, LeMahieu are all trade targets with 1 year remaining. LeMahieu and Dozier haven't played 3b exclusively in awhile, but both do have experience there.
FA options look like Yunel, Neil Walker, may be a Dat Dude return.
