2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

2 months of Happ for Drury and McKinney.

Wow...Yankees are soundly winning these bidding wars. They have expendable players that other teams would not give up for rentals.

I'm glad the Braves are not. Equivalent is probably Camargo and DPete.

Sources: The Washington Nationals have started discussions with teams to gauge interest if they decide to sell. Of particular interest are Kelvin Herrera, Shawn Kelley and Ryan Madson, three free-agent-to-be relievers. Nats are telling teams they’ll know by end of weekend.

GTFO. Is this real?

That's a tremendous deal for the Jays. Good for them. Anything that hurts the Evil Empire is fine with me.

I don't think it hurts them in the least.

They can replace a guy like Drury with the spare change rolling around in the center console of Cashman's Bentley.

The Yankees operate under a completely different rule set than every other team, and now they are smart enough to fully exploit that fact.

the process based argument would be they are overpaying and ought to be getting more for their surplus, I suppose.

But they certainly won't miss Drury or McKinney on their roster.

Camargo has to be better/more valuable than Drury, right?

What about Harper? That's who they should sell

Even if they did sell, this wouldn't happen. The amount of groundwork necessary for a Harper trade would be weeks if not months (I'm sure the Os spent a long time scouting several different teams' prospects before pulling the triggers on these deals). Unless they were considering selling a month or two ago (unlikely), the Nats would be insane to rush that kind of trade.

... and that's not even taking into account the PR nightmare that would be for Washington.

Maybe, but we’re taking about cheap 45s...good bench players on playoff teams.

Even if Camargo is marginally more valuable, the Braves would have had to beat the Yankees offer.

I suppose the surplus value model for 1-2 win players breaks down at the extremes of the payroll spectrum.

The Rays and As over value MLB-ready non-scrubs because they can’t afford to buy them on the FA market.

The Yankees undervalue those same players because they can fill holes on the roster with those FAs at will.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Braves have discussed a Marcus Stroman trade with the Blue Jays.

Morosi, notes, however that "there's no evidence of progress in those negotiations." Jon Heyman of Fancred wrote earlier this week that the Jays are inclined to keep Stroman because he's having a rough year and is under control through 2020. They can shop him again this winter if he finishes strong down the stretch.

Wouldn't go quite that far - considering the Gnats got Herrera for peanuts and AA might see him as an extension candidate, he might toss them a few cashews to get him.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out here for your benefit.

Suggesting trades based on getting an extension window, and on being able to extend certain players (especially bullpen pieces) makes the proposals, and ideas just seem that much more unrealistic.

yeah...I don't get that line of reasoning
