2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

Holland hasn't been a particularly good pitcher since 2014, he's 32 and he's coming off a truly catastrophic stint with St. Louis. I mean, it's true that signing him to a minor league contract can't really hurt, in the sense that signing anyone to a minor league contract can't really hurt, but he almost certainly can't really help, either.

Not when your GM says he doesn't want rentals, if it comes down to that's all that's left they can hold AA hostage and if he won't bite they will just keep the player(s) being discussed.

Our GM actually didn't say that. And you don't understand supply and demand if you believe the rest of your post.

Eduardo Escobar to the DBacks...he was one that may have been worth picking up as a rental

Good new is the DBacks were one of the other suitors for Asdrubal.

#Mets discussing both Wheeler and Cabrera with #Brewers, sources tell The Athletic. No indication a deal is close. NYM also talking about players separately with other teams. #DBacks one of several on Cabrera, as first noted by @Buster_ESPN.

If we see the Brewers get only Wheeler from the Mets, or pivot to another IFer, I think that makes the Braves the favorite for him.

The biggest problem Greg's having is physical (his hip). They rushed him back from the DL stint trying to get value out of the contract, and he's still not completely healthy. His hip problem is preventing him from geting fully into his turn and he's unable to clear it on release. He's been seeing a chiropractor, but needs to be shut down for at least 2 weeks.

Obviously that would keep him from providing any immediate help, but if someone can get him for nothing and give him until mid- to late-August to get healthy he could provide value at that point.

Somebody's (contenders) going to take a flier on him, the question for me is who?

Geez has he maybe ever thought to do a quick google search to see if the Chiropractor is the problem? Does he have a "subluxation" that needs ironing out? How in the hell are professional organizations allowing their players to go to pseudoscientific doctors.

It doesn't appear as if Escobar cost that much either...cost the Dbacks pitcher Jhoan Duran and outfielders Ernie De La Trinidad and Gabriel Maciel

I'm not a fan of this one. We could have and should have beat that price for him. Yeah his 900+ OPS was probably carried a bit by his .330 BABIP against righties, but even with some regression I think he would have been an upgrade and provide us some very valuable bench depth. Still hopeful for Asdrubal, Solarte, or someone along those lines, but this one was a missed opportunity in my opinion.

Duran is 20 (same age as Ynoa and Muller) and doing well in High A. Ynoa just got promoted to High A and Muller has been there all season. So Duran is probably closer in value to Muller. The two outfielders are not as impressive but they are not organizational filler either. Equivalent for us I think is maybe Muller plus Ramos and Javier. I'd say it is a bit more than I would have been willing to give up.

I'm not a fan of getting Solarte...again I do not believe he is enough of an upgrade to give up prospects for. I wasn't for Cabrera either so I'm glad he's off to the Phillies.

One of the minor league guys for the Braves said that the comp for the best piece in the Eduardo Escobar trade was Drew Waters or JCE and yeah...I may do JCE but not Drew Waters.

The Asdrubal Cabrera one on the other hand...what in the hell AA? There's an easy answer to that.
