2018 Trade Deadline ROSTERBATION

Per source: The Royals have agreed to a deal with the Brewers for Mike Moustakas for Minor Leaguers Brett Phillips and Jorge Lopez.

There were 16 trades involving 48 players in the final 36 hours of the 2017 trade deadline.

There were 24 trades involving 64 players in the final 36 hours of the 2016 trade deadline.

Take some Midol and relax

So there will be 8 trades involving 32 players this time around.

Mous to the Brewers, Asdrubal to the Phils. It would have been hard for the Braves to beat Phillips for Mous, but it likely would have required Fried plus more.

I don't see any other available guys at 3B that will make much of a difference. Maybe Beltre or Solarte.

What a terrible trade for Milwaukee. Mous is not very good. I wanted him for depth and because I thought he would be cheap. Good job GMDM on finally getting good value on a trade.

Phillips was never playing for the brewers and Ortiz is now a bullpen arm.
Good trade for them. Most interesting is that they’re moving Shaw to 2b. We’ll see how that works out.

There are no positional upgrades left. Any deal has got to be about pitching. Archer, anyone? Or do we dare to wheel and deal for Wheeler?

I like the package the Twins got for Escobar better than what the Mets got for Cabrera and what the Royals got for Moose. All three are at the high end of what I thought these players would fetch.

I think AA is right to prefer deals for players under control beyond 2018. We'll see if he can land someone like Dietrich or Solarte.

I wouldn't have wanted the Braves to beat any of the deals made for the 3rd base options. These guys have been more expensive than I expected.

Yeah. We would probably have had to include Muller in the deal. Plus another piece above the organizational filler level. Say Muller and Encarnacion. I'm curious, who around here would pull the trigger on Muller and Encarnacion for one of Escobar, Cabrera or Moose.

My love for Archer is well documented here... but my prediction is that he goes to the Brewers.

Going to be a fun few days of waiting and seeing what happens. The team could use a boost for sure. Lots of other teams have upgraded. Almost feels like AA is going to stay mostly put and use this year to get experience for the young guys

Geez has he maybe ever thought to do a quick google search to see if the Chiropractor is the problem? Does he have a "subluxation" that needs ironing out? How in the hell are professional organizations allowing their players to go to pseudoscientific doctors.

Don't know all the details - those are just the highlights as they were relayed to me. Not an insider (or Holiday Inn Express doctor). I do know the injury issues are real and that he hasn't hidden them from close friends, but Greg's not the type of guy who would ever use them as a crutch, and no one has ever been more upset about their performance and getting paid for not performing than he does. He'd keep going out there until his arm fell off again (or hip dislocated) because that's what they're paying him to do and he knows they've been shortchanged.

Passan said San Diego is in heavily on Archer. I’m hoping we aren’t in on him. He’s good, but tons of sliders, getting older and I think you’d have to pay for more than what you’d actually get.

This is where I'm at. I don't want to buy a Julio Teheran from 2 years ago.

The Padres trading for Archer now would be as dumb as the Braves getting Gray last year. Trading for MLB pitching with the intent of competing later is an extremely bad plan.

Perhaps the intent was never to find a platoon partner for Camargo, but rather to replace him entirely. Maybe Beltre being a RHH was what they were targeting the whole time, and we let the interview comment by AA about Camargo have too much influence on our thinking.

Long ago we identifed Beltre as the best fit for this lineup, and maybe that’s still the case.

There are very few position players who meaningfully upgrade 3b now...pretty much just Beltre and Solarte.
