Is Beltre an upgrade? Negative defender according to fangraphs. Ops is less than camargo's, and that's with a.351 babip (.050 over career avg)

But, does Beltre meaningfully upgrade the team? I guess it does if you try and get Camargo in the lineup everyday in other ways, but even then...

I’m not sure I want Camargo over Swanson at SS.

We haven't seemed to be very involved with the other position players being moved, just sitting on the fringes. Makes me think we were more monitoring others in case our main target (perhaps Beltre) looked to not be panning out.

Also, Ron Washington gives us an interesting connection. I have no doubt Washington would be campaigning to get Beltre.

I also feel like Beltre could be a good influence on guys like Acuna, Albies, and especially Camargo.

If you don’t believe in Camargo, then Beltre is an upgrade.

One of the main goals for 2018 should have been to get Camargo 400+ PAs. He hasn’t quite reached that mark yet, but he should be close by the end of the season. It’s possible they have identified him as a bench player already.
 
It might not be Beltre vs Camargo. Bringing in someone like Beltre could be about letting Camargo move around the diamond more.

it makes sense from a depth perspective...someone is going to get hurt or go into a slump...gives us a better pinch hitting option too

Yeah, but I'd rather just have Solarte for that. He can platoon with Camargo which upgrades 3rd. He can also play multiple positions and provide pop off the bench which takes care of that issue.

I'd take either one as long as the cost is reasonable
 
The way our transactions have gone this season, i expect us to acquire Albie López, Kevin grybowski, and Nate McClouth

Yeah, I’d be ok with giving a package with Allard as the headliner. He’s a #2-#3 type.
