2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

The more I watch IA's clips from this season, the more h looks like a taller Soroka but nowhere near the spin movement on his pitches. Cheff said his spin rates weren't all that great.

I'd be willing to sell high.

I guess I could agree with that, but I just think it's weird what he's doing at such a young age with a low spin rate on his breaking pitch. Something seems off.

I agree. The data is off somewhere with Anderson. I wish we could sell the Mets on a Wright, Allard, +, + deal. If we could get Thor without trading the big 3 then AA wins the trade deadline hands down.

That’s why the market has moved so slow, a lot of teams still think they have a shot.

I think it's more, a lot of teams aren't trying to signal to their fanbase this early that they're selling.

The second wild card has really changed the game. So they'll probably wait until the last 24 hours to trade.

Yeah I’d agree the last 24 hours will be pretty busy. I see a lot of overpaying going on to now that moves can’t be made in August.

Leclerc is a younger right handed version of Vazquez without the track record. Both have very team friendly contracts. Approximately equal in terms of expected surplus value. Would slightly prefer Vasquez at the same price.

At the same price I'd take Vasquez, but I think Leclerc might come at a lower price point. He hasn't been as consistent as Vasquez and doesn't offer the same amount of name recognition. Its possible that might be neutralized by the fact that Leclerc is younger, cheaper, and is controlled for a year longer. But if we can "buy-low" on him to some degree I think I would prefer Leclerc because of the three factors I just mentioned. He's still gonna cost us a really healthy package though.

But its hard not to drool at the thought of getting a reliever the quality of Leclerc at 4 million dollars per year through 2022 and then have 2 option years at 6 million. There is a tremendous amount of upside there. But like I said, it'd only be worth the cost if we could get the Rangers to sell slightly lower on him than a Vasquez package would cost.

Actually, the more that I think about it the more I'm not sure I want to trade for a "controllable" reliever. It just seems like paying the premium for cheap extra years of the most volatile asset in baseball is a bad idea. It would definitely cost us one of Anderson/Wright plus one from the 2nd tier of our prospects. That is a hefty price to pay for extra years of a reliever.

With Diekman coming off the board other teams may start making moves. I still think AA will make a bigger move for a closer.

I could see him making a few moves...

1. Starting pitcher
2. Closer
3. Relief pitcher
4. Utility player

Numbers 1 and 2 could be interchangeable depending on who it is and what he has to give up. But I’m pretty sure he does either one or both of those. Number 3 and 4 would be same situation, but less of a focus.

Someone the other day had an interesting way of looking at the trade deadline. The object is to look at your postseason roster and who you are going to use to help identify your biggest needs.

Rotation:
Game 1: Soroka
Game 2: Keuchel
Game 3: Teheran

Bullpen:
Jackson : closer
Swarzak: set up
Gausman
Newk
Freid
Folty
Blevins
Tomlin
Sobotka
Minter

Lineup:
Acuña CF
Swanson SS
Freeman 1B
Donaldson 3B
Markakis RF (depending how he comes back)
Albies 2B
Riley LF
McCann/Flowers

Bench:
McCann//Flowers
Culberson
Joyce
Camargo

Honestly Teheran game 3 doesn’t do anything for me so I’d definitely need to upgrade there. Same thing with Jackson as closer. Rather get one of those and bump everyone down. Guys such as Tomlin, Blevins, Minter, etc become more expendable...

One of many scenarios #Mets are exploring, per sources: Syndergaard to #Padres, then using some of return to land Stroman from #BlueJays. Not known which players would go from SD to NYM if deal occurred. RHP Cal Quantrill, a Canadian native, would be logical target for TOR.
